    From the Steelers

I wouldn't be surprised if Wallace is throwing a hissy fit right about now.

We'll have to wait and see what the terms are and what the guaranteed money is. I'd expect the first couple years to be lower cap hits, leaving room for a longer Wallace contract just in case. Definitely unexpected and definitely an eye opener to Wallace.

Just saw this on NFL Network. Very excited we don't have to go through this whole Mike Wallace thing again next year even though Brown says he wouldn't hold out.

I was thinking they would sign Brown at the end of the year. Didn't see this one. Looks like Rooney saying "Mike who"?
I do hope we get Wallace signed too

Lots of benefits to this signing, sends a message to Wallace, locks up a great player, and ensures we won't have to go through this with AB next year.

    Same ... but loving it!

Hope Manny can stay healthy this year and be a nice, speed option opposite of AB. :yeehaw:

Yeah this came out of left field.
Its is either a big FU to Wallace, or a piece of the puzzle that will allow them to sign him.

    Just kidding :D

Would love to have #17 on a long-term contract. Maybe they'll get it done for his birthday (Aug 1st :praying: )

These guys all know it's a business. Wallace (according to the above tweet) had the same reaction I thought he'd have. He's happy for Brown. Most of the players don't seem to be upset or get involved when a guy is in the middle of a holdout because they're just trying to get their money. I think the fans get more upset than the teammates.

O.K. O.K. But they're HUMAN. He knows he's been trying to play hard ball with the Rooneys - Brown wasn't even a RFA until the end of the season and they locked him up. They didn't do that for Wallace LAST season - AND - they're not bowing to his pressure this PRE-season. SOMETHING has to be going through his mind with this signing.

Dude got paaaaaaaaid!! Congrats to him. Had a fantastic season. Don't like that he has rosenhaus as his agent but at least they won't have to deal with that worm next yr. Wallace will be in camp shortly. Gotta be there to negotiate Michael! Pretty clear now if it wasn't for you before. Well done 84!

I have to agree with PWP. I think Wallace's days may be numbered as a Steeler. I hope they can sign him but where exactly is the money coming from?

Well, I'm not saying this frees up more money, but there is plenty of cap space left still this year to get Wallace signed. I really was just speculating that there was very little chance they were going to give Brown a bunch of up front money this year, and it's looking like his '12 cap hit is going to be 2.24 million. The timing of the extension is definitely a statement.

    Me too, Mac.
    Yeah. I'm sure he thought something like- "@#@$ !%#$@# :D That's why I said FWIW, though. :)
