So a team is going to lock into a huge franchise tag number to have control of Bell for only one season. This is Bell who has shown himself to be foolish and selfish this season. This is a running back with a lot of mileage on him, a history of injuries and two drug-related suspensions.

The Steelers don't take risks like that. In this case, the risk is being stuck trying to get under the cap while taking on a bloated salary for Bell in 2019.

Spare me the emojis. You're the one who is abandoning logic here.

Unless everything I've read is incorrect, you are confusing what would happen under the transition tag and the franchise tag.

It's just as well if we dont trade for him. Tomlin would ruin his play anyway... How do we know the Steelers are not intertisted in trading for him? i have been asleep the past few hours lol

Bells trade value is dropping IMO. Every game Conner does well...drops Bells value. Honestly....I think 8 mill a year is looking more like his true value. 17 mil...no way.

It was a self inflicted Wally Pipp

1st and 3rd round picks the last decade.

2008 - Mendenhall and Bruce Davis
2009 - Ziggy Hood and Mike Wallace
2010 - Pouncey and Emanuel Sanders
2011 - Cam Heyward and Curtis Brown
2012 - Decastro and Sean Spence
2013 - Jarvis Jones and Markus Weaton
2014 - Shazier and Dri Archer
2015 - Dupree and Sammie Coates
    2016 - Burns and Hargrave
2017 - Watt and Cam Sutton and Conner
2018 - Edmunds and Rudolf and Okorafor.

I would argue only 2010 and 2017 have currently produced 2 good players.....and I think 2017 and 2018 are still to soon to tell.

But hypothetically knowing what we know as of right now.....Peterson or any one of those other years....I think I take Peterson.

So yes...you might get 2 REALLY good players...but the odds seem to be a little against it. So I will take the bird in the hand(Peterson) vs the two in the draft.

Yeah. Interesting that he’s a QB coach. The first thing he has to say about mechanics is DON’T throw like me.

The hunt for the Steelers "Patrick Peterson"

Every DB drafted since the Steelers hit a home run with Troy and Ike in 2003

    2018 Terrell Edmunds, Marcus Allen
    2017 Cam Sutton, Brian Allen
    2016 Artie Burns, Sean Davis
    2015 Senquez Golson, Dorian Grant
    2014 Shaquille Richardson
    2013 Shamarko Thomas, Terry Hawthorne
    2012 Terrence Frederick
    2011 Curtis Brown, Cortez Allen
    2010 Credon Butler
    2009 Keenan Lewis, Joe Burnett
    2008 Ryan Mundy
    2007 William Gay
    2006 Anthony Smith
    2005 Bryan McFadden
    2004 Ricardo Colclough
    2003 Troy Polamalu, Ike Taylor

    24 DBs taken...
    2 great players......Ike and Troy
4 solid if not exciting .....Lewis, McFadden, Gay, Mundy
6 yet to be determined......Edmunds, M Allen, B Allen, Burns, Davis, Sutton
    12 basically wasted draft picks.....

Not trading for Peterson is the equivalent of turning down a hamburger you can see and then hoping there is a hamburger in the next bag......when you have only gotten 1 bag with two hamburgers in it in the last 16 trips to Burger King.

Best Steelers CB since Ike.....Joe Haden...and they didn't draft him either. GO GET PETERSON. The fact that the Steelers name is not even being mentioned about (Eagles, Saints, Pats) is embarrassing and honestly slightly insulting to Steeler Fans IMO.

I give Dallas credit. While I am not big on the 1st for Cooper....you have to like the fact that they saw that WR was a need. They attempted to do something to fix it. Maybe it works maybe it doesn't. But doing nothing certainly would not fix it this year.

The Steelers appear to think that their DB's will be juuuuuuuuust fine. When its obvious to the rest of the NFL...the likes of the Chiefs, Patriots, Saints will torch them early and often ....they even made Flacco look like a real QB for the first time in years.

The Steelers window is only open for a few more years....When Ben walks...its anyones guess what happens yearly.....Put Peterson and Haden on the D and try to get one maybe two more rings

Haden, Tuitt, Heyward, Watt......that is the only 4 guys on defense that I would say no deal if AZ wanted....the rest are replaceable.

No team is going to give a 1st for Bell. My guess is the Steelers wouldn't even be able to get a 2nd for him. Why would any sane GM trade for a guy that might not show up at all? And when he does show up, it will take some time to learn the play book. Then after this year, he's a free agent. Anyone who doesn't realize this is either trolling or has no clue how the NFL works.

As for Peterson, if the GM says he's not being traded, then it's likely he's not being traded. If there is a chance, it will probably cost more than our 1st. Cooper, a struggling WR, just went for a 1st that will likely be higher than ours. Somehow a far superior player is going to be traded for less than that?

To be fair, the Cowboys were stupid. That doesn't mean the Cardinals are going to get a stupid offer for Peterson.

I do think he is worth more than a first-round pick. I doubt the Steelers will pay that kind of price, though there is certainly a good argument to be made that they should make an offer.

A first in 2019 and a second in 2020. He’s Atleast top 3 corners in the NFL to do it consistently. We’re not that far away so you go get him. We’re not winning a SB with Burn or Sensabaugh. If the FO is wanting to win. You go get it. Like Bruce Arians says, you risk it to get the biscuit.

Appreciate the research. Ike wasn't even "great" by league standards. He was just great to some Steelers fans. Keenan Lewis had potential but him and Tomlin didn't get along so he left. When was the last pro bowl corner drafted by this team? Woodson? 3 decades ago!!? You'd think with the Haden experiment and him being the best corner we have seen since Woodson they would realize this needs to be done. This is the Rooneys and their parity bull****. Just be good enough to stay afloat but not serious about winning a Championship.

    Penguins >>>> Steelers

The Penguins play in a completely different set of circumstances, so that comparison is silly.

What do you mean by the Rooney family and their parity stuff? Are you saying they are intentionally avoiding being too good for some reason? With all due respect, if that was your point, it is one of the most ridiculous things I've read on this board.

How are the circumstances different? They both have their elite aging core. Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Ben, AB, and "Bell". Pens made moves to win now instead of later. Something the Steelers don't get. Yes, the Rooneys have said they believe in parity which is great for the league as a whole. It makes sense why they wouldn't trade for an all pro corner when their Top 5 QB, o-line, and WR only have a few years left. They are content with consistently being good but not good enough. They are fine with that.
