Thanks for the info. From my reading of that language, the non-exclusive tag isn’t available for the 3rd year.

There’s clearly no way that’s going to work.

asking for a first was a pretty high bar imo. Not that he's not worth a first but he is not worth it this year to another team.

I still think a nod-nod, wink wink deal could have been made between Bell and a new team if a trade was in the works. The rules say they can't negotiate a new deal this year if he was traded but I bet the parameters of a new deal would be made and sealed on a handshake. A lot of stuff happens behind the doors that we are not aware of.

I think it’s the other way around—the Exclusive tag is off the table. Section 2(a)(i) is the Non-Exclusive tag. Section 2(b) addresses a third-time tag tender value, without regard to its flavor.

Thanks but that wasn't my point. I'm not smart enough to follow all the tag stuff.
Bell put his money where his mouth is, Rooney didn't plan on that.

I do not. It has been posted on the board and I've seen the number before, but I don't remember what it is. I can't imagine the Steelers going higher after this season.

He does have to sign the tender and report this season or the team can just put the tag on him at the same number for next season. He has to be there for Week 10 or this season won't count toward free agency.

Considering Steve Keim’s DUI, recent draft pick busts, and OC hiring, would he have the go-ahead to even make this kind of move from Bidwill?

AT 14.5 million this year, next year's Franchise tag would be at 144% higher at 20.9 million. Somewhere I heard 22 million, which is only 1 million off.

There was a report that the Steelers could use a nonexclusive transition tag on him next year, which the base salary is based off of what he ACTUALLY MAKES this year (not the 14.5 mil). That base salary as far as I understand is meaningless as other teams could bid for him driving that number up. The Steelers could choose to match. Here's the link https://www.behindthesteelcurtain.c...ag-on-him-in-2019-holdout-week-7-bye-nfl-news

This is as far as I understand it all. As for the initial post being a phony source, that is possible. As it looks now, it looks like he will be in the black and gold this year and probably zero chance for next year.

The 2nd to last sentence in 2(b) says something to the effect that only the tagging team can negotiate a contract with a player that has been tagged for the 3rd time.

The “Prior Year Salary” is the last negotiated contract. If Bell doesn’t report this season, his 2019 tag is based off 2017’s $12mm number.

The transition tag value is the greater of the average of the top-10 RBs (by percent of team’s salary cap, I think) OR a figure based on what Bell actually makes this year. Either way, I’m sure some team will throw stupid-money at him.

I’m not totally clear on that now. Things get hazy depending on whether or not he reports this year.

I don't believe the first round pick theory, i believe the Steelers
would take what they would think is the best offer available to them.

Man this made me laugh, a good way to start of a Monday! Plus all 3 of our division foes choked it up!

To even think about franchising again is just insanity. Why? I can't wait to see the door hit him in the @ss.

It's funny how 90% of the fanbase has a better plan with bell than Tomlin and the front office.. Pretty obvious after Conner showed he can ball the thing to do was to either pull the tag and use that money on the defense or to trade him for a defensive player.. But what do we know right instead there gonna bring this clown back who's gonna fracture a locker room who's starting to come together
