Question about Titans Playoff Game in 2002

Simple question: Were the Steelers screwd on that roughing the kicker penalty? Furthermore, was an explanation ever given from the league?

 

Yes. I thought they were. Joe Nedney admitted that he flopped. No, I do not believe the league ever issued any sort of explanation.

 

I’m not sure you can say we were screwed as it was technically a penalty. However, Nedny definitely earned an Oscar with that performance. He could teach a thing or two to soccer players.

 

The Steelers were screwed by Dwayne Washington.

 

I remember that game and I remember thinking that the penalty was a joke. OF course I think most penalties on kickers are a joke. How can you allow for blocked kicks and then penalize a player for even bumping into the kicker? It is not reasonable, especially in that case where it changed the outcome of the game.

 

Yeah screwed. I remember being 12 and frustrated to the verge of tears because I thought it was such BS (it was). That was as much roughing the kicker as TJ Watt roughed the passer.

 

I guess it's bye week. We can't ***** about the refs screwing us this week, so we'll have to drag out one of the 'golden oldies' and ***** about the refs screwing us way back when.

 

I actually went on YouTube and watched it again. The penalty was for running into the kicker, not roughing, and Dwayne Washington ran into Nedney. Nedney made sure to embellish it to make sure the refs noticed, but he did get run into. If the same thing happens to Boswell, everyone here thinks it's a penalty.


Side point, Steve NcNair sliced and diced that D on the OT drive. They kicked the FG on 2nd and 2. The D never stopped them. So, I think the D just might deserve a little blame here.

 

2002 was not a banner year for the D.

 

Hopefully we don't look back and say the same thing about this current defense years from now

I remember that being that last Steelers game I ever got to watch with my mom. She got diagnosed with stomach cancer that April and then was gone by August she was an avid Steelers fan. I was only 17 the time that game was played and 18 when she was gone. It was bittersweet winning super bowl XL, wish she could of been there to see it, with me. She would of been screaming the whole time. Just like she was at those refs at the end of that Titans playoff game.

The Raiders would have shredded us with their spread offense the next week. But yeah, I was a teenager and remember being so upset after that game.
