Even in the most unlikely of events that Mike Tomlin would choose Bell over Conner, Ben's indirect message yesterday during the press conference rules out that possibility all together.

Realistically, the two week Roster Exemption is likely to be used here as there is no telling what shape Bell is in. Even if he is in shape, he is not in "football shape."

I'm going to have to disagree. From the pictures I saw, he did look like he was the shape of a football.

Yea who cares at this point. Ben and his passive aggressive comment toward Bell yesterday tells you all you need to know about what he thinks of Bell. He is tired of him and doesn’t miss him at all and probably doesn’t want him back. And what Ben wants usually Ben gets at this point in his career.

Just cut the cord Steelers!!!!! Get rid of him and the BS that goes along with him!!!!!!!!

With Conner in there we could win the division. With Conner or Bell in there I can't see beating Patriots or Chiefs in their stadium in the playoffs.

More and more I really think the loss of Shazier has a huge impact on the defense. In my opinion a much bigger loss then Bell now that we have Conner.

I hope someone slips him a joint then calls the NFL and say he is all smoked up. I don't want him on the Steelers

There was some comment that he would show up after the heading deadline... Presumably so he had more control over his destiny.

I for one would welcome him back if he could/would contribute (still see it as business for better or worse). What would really piss me off if he does show up WWoodley-style and we pay him JUST to get the comp. If he shows up out of shape and we cut him due to breach of contract, do we get ANYTHING for him? Even if he does not sign anywhere next year?

That might not be a bad idea, James Washington is giving them nothing so far.

I do not understand the people here wanting to cut him loose. I keep hearing that from posters who seem to be very angry with Bell. If you are angry with him, why suggest a course of action that gives Bell exactly what he wants?!

But people here(not saying if it was you specifically as I cant recall those exactly who did) called me dumb when I said that was the reason for Bell's slow start last yr.

Because the Steelers organization and the fans pride are in the way. They want to make it look like they did the eight thing when all they are doing is delaying the inevitable.

Steelers pride isn't in the way. They have a dilemma on their hands and however they handle it, it won't be based on pride.

I think they probably feel it is in everyones best interest to move Bell at this point but if they can't, there is no way they will cut him.

Thats where the dilemma is even more compounded because you have a RB producing the same as Bell was and taking his starting job away is problematic. Likewise, having a premier RB like Bell and regulating him to BU duty will cause some drama. As much as Bell would like the reduced risk of being hurt, he won't be able to showcase his skills for the last 6, 7 or 8 games depending on when he returns which in turn hurts his value for free agency.

Perhaps they would work Bell on the field as more of a WR and allowing JC to continue to get the bulk of the snaps as the RB. Thats one way they could work around it. Switzer would suffer the most in that scenario.

    The situation is a mess.

They are doing more than delay the inevitable. They are refusing to reward a player for doing the wrong thing. They are protecting an asset. At the very least, he gives them a draft pick for next year. His price tag is already dramatically reduced due to the game checks he forfeited by refusing to show up.

The Steelers have been down similar roads before. They rewarded Blount's bad behavior by giving him what he wanted, his release. That allowed him to fix the Patriots' problem at running back that season and helped a rival win a Super Bowl. They did the same with James Harrison last season, again helping the Patriots, though this time they only made it to the Super Bowl.

Cutting Bell loose hurts the team in the short run, it costs them an asset and it potentially helps a rival.

You really need to get a better grasp on these things. Perhaps try thinking past unthinking support of Bell because he has talent and a few talking heads on television are on his side.

I've said it from Day 1...Bell is being a pompous Ass, and has the Steelers by the balls , and he knows it...He is going to show up on the LAST possible day he is allowed to...

Here's the bigger dilemma...He comes back, Conner remains the starter, He pouts, talks ****, disrupts the lockeroom, and is an all around pain in the ass...

He comes back, a few weeks into it he starts, The Steelers start riding him, then he complains hes being used, and they just want to run him into the ground...And probably has the ole hamstring tweak ( for weeks )

I just dont see how this is going to end well...Big time trades in the NFL are rare...But man I hope so...I see it as the best scenario for all involved

That’s not a sure thing. If the Steelers sign 2-3 free agents, it could offset losing Bell.

Bell might have gotten in because he waits then hits the hole. Bell has a completely different running style then Conner. I like Bell and want him back, but I’ll admit Conner is doing a really good job. Also if a Bell doesn’t show up this time he can stay gone.

Bell would be more valuable towards a playoff tm , only having to pay him 1/2 a season to have a solid run
