You said that as a joke, but with the circumstances being what they are ,,I could see a point where the Owners start taking offers off the table.....We have a new OC and I am sure the owner is pissed that we got bounced by Denver last year...I am also sure the Owner believes we would have done better had we got in all of our off season work....

So to exxpect him yo be irate when his #1 WR won''t sign a deal and get to work is spot on I think the players have a case of wishful thinking....Except 1 of course...The 1 Who made the statement about Wallace needing Football not the other way around......IMO he had a talk with Wallace before that statement and felt that Wallace was willing to play hard ball.....As a smart guy he tried to bounce some perspective in the direction of Wallace....It seems to no evail......

Post-Gazette is saying they suspended all talks with Wallace. Not a good sign.

Didn't they tell Hines they wouldn't talk to him until he reported to camp when he held out years ago?

I think I remember Hines and Mr. Rooney having a back room meeting at a preseason game after Hines showed up. I may be wrong but I think that is right

Yes, and that was Mr. Dan Rooney who met with Hines. But I believe they met before Hines showed up at camp. I might be wrong there, just how I remember it.

I still don't understand how players WHO ARE UNDER CONTRACT can skip practices/not show up/hold out. If you are under contract you are required to be present. If you was under contract for your work and decided not to show, you would be fired or reprimanded.

As I remember it, they refused to talk to him until he showed up to camp. After two weeks he'd had enough and reported to camp. Hines' holdout was different in the sense that he had remaining time on an existing contract, but was holding out to get a big money extension. In the end, he came to his senses and it all worked out in the end. :D

Yes, that's true. Still the talk at the time was that Mr. Rooney had asked Hines to meet him privately just to talk, and that they didn't talk money but about Hines' other concerns. Hines then did tell reporters that the talk with Mr. Rooney helped him decide to get himself to camp. There the negotiations continued and the contract was settled. The entire tone of the incident was NOT that the Steelers broke their firm policy, but that Dan Rooney and HInes met privately as friends to talk. I am sorry I could not get back to the old board (I don't really mean that!!) or find the old news stories from 2005. Maybe someone else has links.

Bill Cowher begged Hines to show up and a deal was cut after that.
The Steelers are fair with their players. if the Steelers do have long term plans
for Mike Wallace it will be under their terms. (Where are all the cap gurus when you need them?)

I'm almost suspecting that's actually what Mike wants. To get franchised. It would be a good one year contract, and give him time to get his big payday.

yea, i'm pretty sure he would have liked that money this year and the team opted for the first round tender. that would have taken all the money if they did. man, he's really pizzed some people off i believe not showing at camp. not good.
