Another lawsuit against the NFL. While I don't condone the NFL withholding evidence of brain trauma from the players (if they in fact did) I still have to wonder if Dawson and others would have done anything differently. I say no, they'd keep on playing thinking they are invincible. I really don't understand why any player would need to be told that injuries to the brain are bad for you

Don't these players sign contracts full well knowing the risks of playing in contact sports?
These continuing lawsuits will be the end of all football as we know it. It will be as acceptable to put child in pads and a helmet as it is acceptable to smoke in a bar in California or anywhere in the U.S. for that matter.

I love Dirt, and I guess I can understand being angry over feeling deceived that the league withheld evidence from the players. However, it's a little like suing a cigarette company after being a lifelong smoker. That might not be the best analogy, but I don't think grown men need medical evidence to know that repeated brain injuries might be bad for their brain.

Yeah I'm getting sick of these things. Like someone just said...they're signing up for a physical contact sport where you can get hurt in many ways. Banging your head into others/etc even with a helmet is still gonna hurt you sometimes...for crying out loud. Regardless if they withheld info...the players, their agents, families, etc should be smart enough to realize this on their own...wow. Just pathetic.

If he continues with the lawsuit and monetary compensation becomes awarded then he should be automatically ejected from the HOF. It may sound a bit harsh but what are you gonna say to your son or daughter when visiting.
Here is another Steelers great. Dermonti Dawson. Excellent career! One of the best Steelers Centers ever. Elected to the HOF 2012. Sued the same profession in 2012?

i understand knowing it is a contact sport and head injuries happen it is not like a smoker and cigarette companies.
i see it more as an employee working for a company and that company doesn't have the best safety program or even try to install the safest safety program or even better disclose to its workers that some aspects of their work is dot dot dot
yes i stand for the little guy even if they are 6' 8" 350

Gees. That is such a stretch there, even in this sue happy nation of ours.
The average street vendor who went into those buildings on that horrific day to be a hero should be paid X amount of money for their heroics even though they are not safety personnel? Thats like the clowns fan jumping the fence and getting pummeled by and suing James Harrison.

If you come across a car accident and help the person survive but then get burned doing your good deed are you going sue the initial operator of the vehicle for having an accident in the first place? What if they don't have insurance? Are you gonna now make them homeless too?

If so, Boy we are a ruthless society.

By your logic, A fireman/woman/police officer is a more important human being then the little weenie vendor. Yea, that makes sense. Whatever.
Don't try and save my butt some day..... You'd be going through a checklist while I burn to death.

So you work in a warehouse with forklifts whizzing around, do you need the company to tell you not to cut behind the thing? It's a sue happy nation we live in folks, step right up and get your quick buck here.

@TTF, Yeah, Dirt is one of my favorites too :herewego:

Do some research on the subject and you will find that many players are not seeking financial compensation.

The NFL lied to players. The entire culture of the NFL demanded that players go back into games after suffering concussions.

as has been said these guys do know that signing up to play professional football means they can and will be injured. They can deal with blown out knees, bulging disks, torn shoulder cuffs and so on. However it wasn't till the late 80's and into the 90's when they started to reveal the long term effect of concussions and brain trauma. What they are talking about is full disclosure of the facts. No one told them that after their 4th or 5th concussion that they would have a variety of long term health issues. You can find many cases where the players were told by team doctors not to worry about it. They were cleared to play just days after sustaining a devastating hit to the head. Some were even discouraged from seeking an second opinion outside of the team doctor. So what they are doing is trying to raise awareness so kids like the FB(i believe it was) from Ohio State is given all the information about his possible health risks before choosing an NFL career and he chose his health where as some of the players suing like Dawson didn't have that option available to them.

Don't sign on the dotted line if you are afraid of the consequences.
