Two seasons? It's not all that long. The Steelers also have a recent history of liking big backs, so I wouldn;'t actually be surprised if there were folks telling him to keep the weight on or bulk up a bit.

Still, lets hope it translates into something good on the field.

well to be fair Mac, we don't know how hard he was working out on his own before heading to this place in Florida. We also don't know what kind of place this is in Florida, it could be one of those grueling boot camp places you go for a month. I think it's good that he's putting in the effort, should have some positive results which is good for us

couldn't pass the run test last year. doesn't sound like a guy trying to advance much to me. sounds like a guy that does just enough. could have passed redman if he would have worked. redman did. clay did. he got fat again. this just isn't what i would expect out of a guy trying to win a spot and playing time. i'd rather read the stories about guys that worked all off season. essex,ziggy,clay,redman,legursky,mclendon,brown.......

Actually we do know what kind of place this is in Florida. I read the article in the Trib about this(probably the one the NFL.com story is linked to) that this is where Timmons and Antonio Brown go as well as Matt Forte of the Bears and MJD. Dwyer looked at what it has done for several starting caliber RB's in the NFL and his own teammates and decided to try it as well.

Not sure you would get more than generalities some places really guard their methods against competition. I am sure though with a month long training session they are working on all the typical areas. I have never seen anything specific on anyones regime. I mean Troy talked about his kettle bells that one season and Farrior and Ike swore by their guy in Florida but dont remember seeing anything more than pulling a sled or have a parachute strapped to their back. So we may never know. I would say by the time camp gets done we should know if it is a good program or not at least for Dwyer. Seems to work for Timmons and Brown.

It'll be interesting to see what he looks like in camp.

Here's a video showing some of the things they do there. As thorn mentioned, it doesn't show you a whole lot of specifics, but it's fun to see some of the work they do. You might recognize a Quarterback around 2 and a half minutes in.

Here's a long list of NFL players who have trained there in the past.

    Players list.

i guess i do. no need to get your computer muscles in an uproar. let's look. he's in the last year of his contract. he took it to the last minute again, to get in shape for his JOB. i think it's his last ditch effort to even make the team let alone do much this year.

I agree, Mac. It's weird that someone in his shoes wouldn't put in the work every day- morning, noon, and night to be at his peak game and condition. From the article-
But hey, if he truly has realized what kind of work ethic and dedication it takes, cool...more power to him.

i hope he does get it together. i like the kid. i'm just more enamoured with the good backs that have been working hard to get ahead that we have. it just shows more drive and dedication. clay wants his spot and it has shown so far i read. with the addition of a FB, and who is kept at TE, roster spots are going to be at a premium. it just disturbes me that the light just went on. will he keep it up?

he and mendy and redman and clay will all be up for contracts next year. batch and rainey are fighting for a spot and i think will be kept since they are both still under contract. assuming anyway, since they are also going to be used at other spots as 3rd down back , return men and even wr for rainey. is he worthy of a 2nd contract? we are tight on money this year and next and positions available.

Computer muscles? It's not like I insulted you mac, don't be so sensitive. It's just confusing as to why that would make a difference, some people take longer then others to get it. Even if it's just because it's his contract year, again, who gives a ****, as long as it helps the team this year I could care less. So many people have agendas here, have their favorites, I don't care about that stuff, I don't care who's wearing the uniform, the one who helps us win the most is the one I want on the field. Having a lot of able bodies in camp to choose from is not a bad problem to have.

and that's exactly why i'm saying i want guys that work year round to get better and are hungrier, so the team gets better. it has nothing to do with agenda's and favorites.

Good to hear,I hope he continues this attitude the rest of his career....He is in a serious battle with Clay for a roster spot IMO...I wish the kid luck ,but without a stellar camp and pre season he really could get cut..

If that happens I hope he continues to work hard and becomes the player he can be....

    Do you think so?

I've always liked Clay, but I think he would have had to have stepped up a fair bit in the off-season, and Dwyer to have nosedived similarly, for them to be competing. At the moment I think the order after Mendy and Redman is Dwyer-Batch-Clay. Still, with the way things have been going this off-season... who knows?

I think Dwyer is realizing that his time in the NFL is not a guarantee, and if he doesn't something this year that he is on his way out.

I hope he is doing this because he want to be great and help the team.... not just because he wants the paychecks.

Sometimes I think we forget how old some of these kids are. Yeah, I know they are adult in age but mentally is another story. I hope he is one of those slow learners that will come on this year. I do agree that it gives the appearance of someone trying to save their job, however, if he comes through then it is well worth the appearance.

Bottom line is his talent is welcome on the field if he is in shape and prepared to compete.
