I would say let him wait and when he reports let him walk. No point in doing so now

I see Bell has been taken off the depth chart.

My understanding is that he’s accepted the franchise tag tender when he signs the contract AND it’s received by either the Steelers office or the NFL league office. His physically showing up is not dispositive.

I believe he has to show, pass a physical, and the Steelers agree. I could be wrong but if I’m right the moment he shows up I tell him to get the F out of this city and never show his face again

Unless there's some world class DB, LB, or TE out there worth using his money on, I say don't release him. He made his bed. Now sprinkle cookie crumbs on it.

    Tag him again.

If he reports after week 10.....Fail him on the physical after he signs and reports..... there’s only a 7 day window before he misses out on the free agent season stuff.....

I thought he has to report before week 10 or else he will lose a year for FA?

This is just my opinion but I think he can't pass the drug test he will have to take when he signs his tag. I am having a hard time understanding why Bell is doing this cause he knows how good this team is or could be and if he came in in week one and they go on to win a super bowl I am pretty sure that would drive his price up even more in FA. Bell clearly cares far more about getting paid than he does about winning.

    CBA, Article 8:
For the purposes of calculating Accrued Seasons under this Agreement, a player shall receive one Accrued Season for each season during which he was on, or should have been on, full pay status for a total of six or more regular season games, but which, irrespective of the player’s pay status, shall not include games for which the player was on: (i) the Exempt Commissioner Permission List, (ii) the Reserve PUP List as a result of a nonfootball injury, or (iii) a Club’s Practice Squad.

It is a business. I mean if the Steelers cared more about winning, wouldn't they have paid Bell more gauranteed money? It works both ways.

So it looks like he can sit out 10 weeks:

And so, as Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell closes in on possibly skipping regular-season games and the $855,000 checks that go along with them, he can do that for 10 total weeks and still become eligible for free agency in 2019. Article 10, Section 15(a) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement articulates the deadline: The window on Bell playing in 2018 closes at 4:00 p.m. ET, on the Tuesday after Week 10.

I agree but if he was the star RB on a SB winning team I am pretty sure that makes his price rise up in FA no?

See Shiver's post. Also, that isn't relevant to my point. I was addressing a point regarding Bell not caring about how good the team can be and possibly messing up the Steelers' season by sitting out. He doesn't care what happens to his team as long as he gets paid. The Steelers aren't saving money to keep it in their wallets. They aren't the Pirates. They are trying to be smart about their money so they can keep and acquire more talent at other positions.

Possibly. Larry Brown's big contract after Super Bowl XXX shows that teams can be stupid enough to overpay for something like that. (Please note I'm saying the team that does something like that is stupid, not the poster who suggests that it might happen. You are making a good point.)

This honestly has no good ending. Even if he comes back at some point how can you play a guy who is saying the reason he’s not here is because he doesn’t want to get hurt to protect his body for next year?? I mean he will either dog it or fake a minor injury to sit out. But if we just cut him we lose a 3rd rd pick next year. I guess you let him come back week 10, try for the 2 game extension to have him miss two more game checks, then sit him the last 4 games of the season??

So he’s now blaming the OL on his not returning?? And he thinks that will work out for him how?? There’s no way in hell the linemen will block for him now. If he’s back there, he’s toast. Both side are gonna have to admit that it’s over. He is no longer a Steelers player. Figure something out and end this before the season is in jeopardy.

If true, he's even more of a selfish prick doing that on purpose knowing he could just hold out until its out of his system.
