I'm not sure how I feel after reading that article. My problem is that I was looking for something to jump out at me and give me hope regarding our last couple roster spots and didn't see it. I guess I was looking for a warm, fuzzy and all I got was gas.

i'm with you on the nothing jumping out at me. one or two bright spots though may be at safety. golden is a guy i've been high on since we got him as an udfa, i did hear he had a nice mini and ota sessions. ( where i saw that, i can't tell you now) but i was suprised he wasen't drafted. i also think cromartie will get it year 3. he looked as good as mundy last preseason i thought. one thing about both these guys is they have played CB also. if we keep extra safeties and get in a pinch, i wouldn't be suprised if they don't play some nickle or dime situations or we just use an extra safety. or.... we still bring in a mid level vet to fill the void.

I think rolle has the most potential of the young safeties. He has the ability to be a mental assasin. Im sure it took him awhile to get back in te football swing but if he has his game back he is going to be able to break the play down really quick and figure out what is going on. I have really high hopes for this kid and wanted him when he was at fsu.

Yeah I don't know about Rolle, he was kind of good at FSU, but I can't put him in the great category. He took time off, and you don't know where his head is at with school. I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm not putting much stock in him.

Looking at the CB article I think we sign a vet at some point, just for depth. I think in today's NFL you have to be 5 deep at corner.

I keep forgetting about Cromartie but he is someone that I have hopes for also. Rolle, I just don't know enough about him. I would love to be suprised by our secondary at the end of the year!

cromartie-smith was activated last year and played pretty decent on ST's. i'm not ruling golden out yet either. he was a good corner and safety in college. i think the move back and forth hurt his draftability a good bit. if he can pickup both spots here, he may make the team.

as for rolle, i'm not ruling him out yet but my thoughts for him would be as a special package guy playing near the LOS. almost in a spence type role. it all depends how DLB puts some twists into the defense this year. they have been inventive in the past with safeties instead of corners. it should be interesting to say the least.

A strong, physically put together defensive back with experience at both safety and corner. Started at strong safety in 2009 and moved to corner in 2010. Is still developing as a corner from a technical standpoint. Has a tendency to get a bit leggy when asked to re-direct in coverage and looks a bit stiff trying to transition out of his back-pedal, as he has a bit of a hitch opening up his hips. Possesses only average make-up speed at the position. However, is developing as a press corner, possesses the length/strength to routinely re-route off the line, does a nice job keeping his feet under him and if he doesn't have to turn and run displays a real quick twitch ability about him closing underneath. Displays developing natural instincts as a corner, feels his cushion well when he is in off coverage, stays low in his backpedal and despite getting a bit overextend at times, collects himself quickly and has impressive click and close ability. Showcases a real explosive element to his game when driving on the throw, not only when playing the football, but also as a tackler. Displays plus ball skills coming downhill, adjusts well to the play and looks natural under cutting routes. Gets himself in trouble at times down the field, will allows receivers to get behind him, if he can't get an arm bar into them he will give up separation vertically. However, does a nice job looking and leaning when the ball is in the air and can highpoint the throw.

Is a "plus" tackler who isn't only going to set the edge on the outside, but will attack downhill and create collisions on contact. Breaks down well, possesses a natural snap to his game and is one of the better tackling corner prospects I have seen on tape this year.

Impression: Might be limited to more of a cover two/click and close type corner, but he does have some developing press coverage skills. Also, has a lot of value as a safety, as he can anticipate in the deep half, drive on throws under him and play over a receiver in nickel situations.

here's what national football posts wes bunting had to say about him. he had him listed as a corner. he may just be that guy that can be the go between if the rest don't pan out.

I can't wait to see these battles if the coaching staff will let
it happen, NT,ILB, CB, DE, LT. I am pulling for the dark horses
in these battles. I am also interested in Rolle and how he will be used
if he makes the team. And of course the biggest one how will our new OC
handle the players. He will be turning up the intensity, should be interesting.

Interesting reading about Rainey as I knew very little about him. It is nice to have a weapon on your team like that, if he can make the roster. Another guy I will quietly be rooting for.

My only issue with Rainey is whether he turns into another Stefan Logan. I know, I know, they are very different players, and I know, I know, we have a different OC now who might be actually able to use the talent he has... but there is still a lingering worry that we end up with a decent weapon that is never really given the chance to shine. I hope I'm proved wrong, though.

Nice read on the RB's. It sounds like Rainey is for real, which is what I think we were all hoping to hear. ;-)

the thing about rainey is, he can run between the tackles if needed for short stints. he showed that at fla. he is a good WR. and can be used there. he has learned that position also at fla. he can work as a 3rd down back if needed. his return skills are well documented too. he's got alot more all around skills then logan. his flexability could leave a spot open at wr. being he can play out there in alot of packages , plus be that extra rb. add ret. man and he's a 3 for 1 guy. he did all these things in college and they won't be new for him. can he play CB? LOL

He reminds me alot of Percey Harvin, but not quite as talented (I think Harvin is a bit bigger and stronger and just as fast). Florida has had several of these types of speedster, can run, or receive type RBs over the past few years and they have been productive with big play ability. At least he does not have the migraine issues. I think Rainey has much more potential than Logan did, and I liked Logan.

I forgot about Logan but from what I am now reading about Rainey he appears to be a better talent. Mac...if he can play CB and back up the linebackers I might have to buy his jersey lol

I'm kind of excited about Clemons. His numbers look good and, in addition to the coaching questions, I'd have to question the quality of quarterbacks throwing to him. Could be a nice surprise coming out of camp!

i like clemons too. he was the one guy i got right as a draft pick. he's a big receiver too. you are right colorado was not the best place for wr's to showcase their talents, nor was michigan for a few years. he should breakout to see his real worth here with a real qb. i hope he buddies up with brown and learns that work habit. then we have something special.
