I like Vince, his 8 sacks was an unexpected surprise as was his struggles in the run game. Hope he cleans the later up. Will be a very good player if he can.

    I'm lukewarm on the signing.

On one hand, he is better than many give him credit for. He is the best ILB we got, although some will say that ain't saying much.

Others will say this is a sign of accepting mediocrity just because he was willing to sign (But isn't that was what AB did? Sign to a reasonable deal
    only to flourish afterwards?)

Overall, this doesn't make me warm and fuzzy, nor does it bother me. We locked up Boz as well. Worse things could happen.

Nothing against Vince, but Steelers really need a 1st round/potential pro bowl caliber ILB in the starting lineup to start along side of him.. I hope they can draft one in '19. Or maybe the Steelers can sign Bell and then trade him to the Raiders for Mack.

Definitely a better player with Shazier along side him.

Some vindication for James? Not that I wasn't in his camp anyway....now for all those who took CryBuddy Duprees take on things as gospel there are two sides to the story. He has no excuse now but to shut his cake hole and try to become half the player Harrison was...

I think this was a necessity with the lack of starting/depth/stability at the position. At least Vince has been with the team for a while and has been a functional starter that can make plays and limit mistakes. We know what we get with him for the most part.

The other ILB is a huge concern IMO. I don't think Shazier is coming back, and if he did I certainly don't think we'd see the player we once did. All of the top ILBs went in the top 20 this year. That means most likely the Steelers once again won't be able to go after the top tier talent next year at the position either. Overall I think this was a fair deal.

So is this the front office tidying up the house before the season starts, a precursor to making some trade or just a big FU Lev Bell day similar to what happened to Mike Wallace.

He’s our thumper and that’s what he should be. He needs an ILB beside him that plays off of him. He needs a side line to side line type ILB to show off his skills. Shazier was that exact person he needed.

Now they are just trying to throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks.

Ridiculous pass rusher and I believe the run D will come along. Haven’t looked at what starting ILB’s are getting now a days so I really can’t comment on the number.

4 year deal for $20 million. He continues to put up 8 sacks a year and does well in the run game, that’s a steal at $5mill a year.

I thought Mack was OLB/DE/edge rusher?

I like it. I didn’t think Williams would cut it as a starter last year before the season... but I was wrong. He’s an unspectacular, yet solid player that gives it everything he has and is a positive locker room influence. He’s signed on a good deal and for a short enough tenure that we can get out of it unscathed if it backfires. No complaints here. Like the player and the contract

This is basically where I am with it although maybe slightly more optimistic. I think that having Bostic next to him will help a lot. It seems like Bostic has already mastered the defense and calls so that should make things a lot easier on Vince.

All the more reason that the Steelers should give Matthew Thomas an extended look.

    If not him, L.J. Fort.

The entire defense was better with Shazier in there.

If Vince is getting his extension, he needs a running mate for the season.

We should have a better idea on if Bostic is capable of doing so. If not, I would rather take my chances with Fort.

It's reasonable. 8 sacks was nice. Gotta be better in the run game though.

It's clear Vince is one of the defensive leaders of this team.

Bud didn't exactly lie, sounds like you need to pull JH teeth to get him to help you and some people aren't comfortable asking for help. JH wouldn't go out of his way to help you but if you pestered him enough he would.

I'd like to think the young guys could step up. It looks like there might not be much more of an option at this point. Based on what I'm seeing and reading about Matt Thomas, he looks to make the cut. He's showing some good stuff, but still has a lot to learn to fulfill a starting role IMO.
