This probably doesn't bode well for his chances of making the roster with our depth.

    Too bad.

Was he even going to be ready for week 1 anyways? Seems like not a big issue at all.

I still like him on the team. He’s probably our only shifty slot receiver.

Isn't he on the PUP list? I thought he was going to miss the first 6 anyway. I would assume that the suspension would not run concurrently but then it is the NFL.

He was unlikely to grab a roster spot regardless.

He'll just go to New England and be the new Welker/Edleman and be a star.

I actually thought the opposite. He was going on PUP and was going to be around until at least 6 weeks in.

I don't want to speak without knowledge here but if i had to venture to guess given how quickly his rehab was going that he probably was worried about not having a job so he took something to speed recovery time like a steroid

He was likely trying everything to speed his recovery....

I just don't see how there's stuff out there that can help speed recovery, that they don't allow guys in recovery to take.

Eli was. Going to start the season on the PUP. I'm not sure a one game suspension changes much. He will be available week 7 instead of 6.

It depends on what you take. There are types of steroids that do help with healing. Those aren't necessarily the ones you want to use to increase muscle.

I'm not sure how it works with the PUP list. I do know the league allowed Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith to serve a suspension for PEDs while he was already on injured reserve, but the rules may be different for the PUP list.

I think steroids are considered PED's, not a 'substance of abuse', which is what he was suspended for. Substances of abuse are things like weed, opiates, cocaine, alcohol, ect. I could be wrong.

That route didn't work out too well for DeMarcus Ayers, who went to New England and hasn't been heard from since .

I'm assuming it also depends in on whether whatever he took to speed recovery was self administered or was used under the supervision of the teams medical staff. Did he have a prescription? Or did he get it from his workout buddies? M

And why again did we sign him??

Yeah I understand the need for depth, but I believe that Patterson will turn out to be a big help this year..
I have us keeping WR this year: AB, Washington, JuJu, DHB (just because he is a semi asset on ST) Patterson and either Hunter or Griffey.

Then we send Tucker to PS.

Does anyone think we look for any outside help in this area?

Demarcus Ayers is on the Bears roster and looks pretty good. He was better than Eli and we should have kept him. As for his personality or locker room demeanor, he may have a few character flaws that may be why he cant seem to lock onto a team with just his talent. Maybe more trouble than he is worth.
