I would like to see the Steelers draft & develop 4 man d-line schemes.

This is long overdue. The 3-4 had a great run in Pittsburgh, but it's time to adapt to the modern-day NFL. 4-3 defense and personnel is easier to draft, less complicated to implement, easier for rookies to learn and more often than not... it is more effective vs. the better QBs and RBs of the NFL.

What the team needs is for the players to limit mistakes ie turnovers. Turnovers are team killers.

The frequency and opportunities that defenses can generate turnovers are unpredictable. One thing that can be done is for the offensive players take better care of the ball by not giving it away.

Was listening to SNR most of the day and they were replaying the Crowley, Williamson and Lolley show from last night's famoly fest. They said the defense has operated almost exclusively in base or nickel not so the coaching staff can practice game planning but to stress guys and see what they have.

That is what preseason is for. A lot of people on this board just can’t comprehend that.

So do the runners and receivers. In a good defense there is help getting there. That's how to create turnovers too. 11 men to the ball. That's the golden nugget, they have and we want it. Everyone should be trying to get it back.

Tomlin said the best defender in camp so far was the guy wearing the Polamulu shirt that snuck into practice. Actually had him penciled into starting Mack linebacker before he was escorted off.

I read something somewhere (descriptive, I know) that quoted Haden as saying that they did tackling drills at practice and that him and Heyward were trying to lead by example through these drills. He said there’s a lot of “want to” attributed to tackling and that he goes out there and shows a lot intensity in the drills and is seeing it from others too.

Supposedly they are trying some drills to improve the tackling. There will still be missed, but I’d be surprised if it didn’t improve some.

That and the NFL’s desperate attempt to make a violent game “safer” for the players by flagging and fining any type of physical contact
