Tackling drills. Just like in Jr. High Football.

Line them up and get dirty in practice. Call people out for taking bad angles and/or not wrapping up.

It should be humiliating and exhausting until it's burned in the muscle memoy.

Unfortunately, I think we have the talent; BUT, I think the blame of this performance goes mostly to the coaches.

Yeah. It's crazy. How can this team continue to be so bad at tackling? Guys that can tackle, come here, and then forget how to.

Fort and Thomas were making tackles. Berhe was making tackles. Sutton was making tackles. The bench can get some guys attention.;)

You have too want to tackle, not so sure some of these guys want to tackle.
I am very nervous of power teams. Jax, Philly, Rams, They may run it down our throats.

Less practice time and NFL rules on how to tackle makes it difficult on defensive players. People can say what they want about fundamentals but the coaches hands are tied in terms of the length and the kinds(less contact) of practices they can have. Over regulation of a contact sport seems to be the problem. I understand what the league is trying to do. Only so much regulation can be done in a violent game like football.

Coaches also seem less inclined to play players a lot of snaps in preseason games due to the risk of injury.

This is the league now. Complaining about it isn't going to change anything. The only thing that might bring about change is if people stop watching. It doesn't appear that's going to happen any time soon.

This. Hands down. Defense's across the league have the same issue. This is the new NFL, Offense's have the advantage, fantasy football, more points and scoring have put the old school feel out of the game to attract the brain dead to watch and keep interested. Personally I like nothing more then a dominate Defense, lots of hitting, crushing the QB. These days are over, unfortunately. Each year my level of interest goes down a notch. I still bleed Black and Gold until the last breath but the league has changed to the point of my limited interest in the NFL. It is what it is...

I don't agree that all defenses are struggling. Vikings, Jaguars... hell even the Cowboys defense looked miles ahead of the Steelers.

cowboys quietly improved their defense to a legit one. Watch out for them.

chargers, jags, Vikings, rams, cowboys, cheatriots, ravens, bagels will all have defenses miles ahead of ours.

Yeah. Those defenses I referred to actually look competent. Preseason games are about executing basic fundamentals like tackling, not letting 3rd string WRs and TEs get behind the coverage... you know, basic pop warner, defense 101 stuff.

Well I guess you should have learned by now that you shouldn't base any analysis of any team on what happens in preseason.

I was comparing the Steelers defense to other teams defensive overall performances. As of right now, the Steelers defense looks like one of the worst, if not the worst. Yeah, they could end up completely shutting out Cleveland here in a few weeks. But it's highly unlikely.

Yeah the Vikes finished as strongly as the Steelers defense last year. You can make the same claim about the Pats, Jags, and Eagles defenses.

At some point people will begin to realize that the days of consistently dominating defenses are probably over. The NFL has pretty much made it that way. Simply because fans love offense.

I don't have much faith in this defense this season. I'm not sure it is a lack of want to or practice.

    Its a lack of talent.
