Wow, super thin here with Grimble having surgery on his hand and McDonald out with kitchensinkitis.

I'm not sure on a timetable for their return. Should we look at bringing in a FA? Anyone have any updates on how Bucky Hodges has been? I know he just got here. The other two McKever (sp?) and the rugby dude prob. won't cut it.

FA route or maybe a roster cut from someone else or too early to tell??

So I went through the free agent list out of curiosity and its slim pickings.

Brent Celek is leaning toward retirement but he'd prob be the top

Coby Fleener - nicknamed the Ghost for his disappearing acts

Julius Thomas - left his best days in Denver, never a blocker so forget it here

Mychal Rivera - out last year with injury, don't know a lot about him tbh

Antonio Gates - didn't he play with Fouts? lol

then some others I didn't recognize but looked them up and they don't seem to offer much.

Crockett Gilmore would have perked my ears but supposedly he is beefing up to play OL or DL. He's gained 40lbs since leaving the Ravens and working out with some OL specialist.

What Pittsburgh should do is neglect their stop gaps for Heath Miller and draft a Tight End.

Much like the offensive lineman crisis of the late 2000s, talent must not just be acquired and developed but also cultivated to ensure that the proper "heir" can take the reigns.

Why Pittsburgh continually reinforces the former but enacts on essentially the economic verison of the plague in the "Sunk Cost Fallacy" is beyond me. Not to say Pittsburgh is the only guilty party here as all 32 teams have done so. However, having seen two very good draft classes of tight ends come and go, it does make me wonder if Pittsburgh trusts the market more than the up and coming.

James has been pretty solid in terms of availability (just jinxed him), we should be ok until Grimble and Vance return.

I like what James brings, he's not a field stretching TE but I like him as a move the chains guy. He seems to improve every season.

Of those I would give Fleener a shot but that’s just like pissing in the ocean because he’s going to be right there with McDonald and Grimble after a couple practices. Maybe Gates but outside of the 20 he’s not going to be much help. Mike Adams? Wesley Saunders? Lmao

For us, seems like a TE is a waste because of who we have. How about no TE. Go with 4 receivers, RB stays back to block and throw every down. With the rule changes, even more free 1st downs by penalty. Besides, this is our advantage. We better use it to the max. I would love to see this tried by us. I have seen games in the past were NE threw against us just about every down and it worked.

I predict Jesse James is going to have a great year.

I say bring in an extra tackle to block or just go 4 wide.

I do like Jesse James so we're good there imo.

As to Samuels, lets see if he makes the 53 first, I haven't seen a ton of praise so far. Maybe I missed it??

I would almost guarantee they bring someone else in, but my guess its a roster cut from another team unless Vance has setbacks.

This is were McGee could have gotten some valuable real game time had he not been injured

Vance was playing catch in shorts last night with a trainer. Pretty sure he tore his rotator cuff

Really need McDonald to get healthy. Just read he was the highest rated TE when it came to run blocking last year. Really really need him to stay healthy.

And then dropped it. No catch by the rules in place.

He should have held on to the ball.

The tight end situation makes the Josh Dobbs selection al that more maddening. Jake Butt would be the starter this year had he been drafted instead of Dobbs.
