I saw on twitter that Steelers GM Kevin Colbert said on sirius radio that he is optimistic Wallace will get a deal done and he wants to be a Steeler, they are currently negiotating with Wallace's agent Bus Cook.

This has already been going on for months. Colbert has said that every day since the season ended. I highly recommend deleting this thread or editing the title to not make it look like he is going to sign one imminently.

Yeah, you should definitely change the title steelersrule6. If you need help with that, I can take care of it for you. Something like 'Colbert still hopes to sign wallace to longterm deal' maybe. :)

Colbert was on Pat Kirwan's radio show today and said that they'll continue to work with his agent, and still hope to sign him to a long term deal. There is nothing really new here...it's basically the same sentiment Colbert's been echoing since last year.

Edit- you can listen to it here~ http://siriusxmsports.posterous.com/kev ... m-ryan-pat

I don't think he will sign....IMO if the 2 sides where even close then he would have already signed....How much will Wallace go down?Thats what this whole waiting game is about...If he don't move he won't be playing for us...

I don't see the logic. It;s not like if you're close to signing a deal, but there are a few points that need ironing out, you just sign it anyway and hope for the best. The guy is sorting out a long-term deal that will essentially affect his entire life, after all.

I'm not saying that they are close to a deal - just that we can't tell from the information we've got now.

The issue with Wallace is the fact we have to negotiate with Brown next year. So whatever you sign Wallace for (however you "slot" him in the offensive salary structure), you have to be prepared to "slot" Brown really close to that.

It's a tough situation to be in because we're really negotiating TWO contracts. I think that's why we're being a little tougher than normal and Cook/Wallace are fighting harder for their position.

    Perfectly said.........

I'm hoping he gets a nice contract but if he is insistant on BIG money I hope he's one and done or traded ( complicated & unlikely ).

    Also, Please edit thread title.

This isn't new. We had the same issue with Plax and Hines... I think we made the right choice there, so I'm confident in whatever the FO does (I think Mike plays on the 2 mil or whatever it is this year and walks next, and Brown gets a big fat contract).

Which is why I wish Mike would've been realistic about his demands and we could've had a 1st rounder for him... Could you imagine if we had grabbed DeCastro, Mike Adams, and Hightower/Nick Perry/Upshaw/Stephen Hill/etc with our first 3 picks?

Is anyone really surprised by this contract standoff? Wasn't it just last year Wallace and Brown became known as "young money"? First up is Wallace and he's trying to cash in. Next year it's Brown's turn. We knew this was coming.

For what it's worth, Brown said he won't hold out. I posted a link about it somewhere on here a few days ago. I think Brown is cut from a different cloth then Wallace, guess we'll find out.

Yes, I read that too but next year he'll want to get paid. Plus his agent won't let him settle for anything less than wallace gets, especially if he has a big year. imho
