I am observing the four year deal only based on the new deal. As is the numbers, he is receiving 15 from that alone.

thank you! man i hate that some people believe Bell is suppose to get a ton of gurantee money. Again, what gurantee does he give the steelers. Dont play hard ball with the Rooneys...you wont win

35 million in guaranteed money is huge but the Steelers don’t guarantee long term.I think the Steelers gave a very fair offer related to how they do business.Bell will get the guaranteed money he wants next year from someone else.Sometimes marriages don’t last as differences come into play.I hope Bell has an outstanding year this year and next year will get paid more by someone else.

Ummm, no one said he is "supposed to" get a large chunk of guaranteed $, we are merely noting that a lack of such is why he won't sign what Rooneys are offering. Now, the market will determine what Bell will get - you are worth exactly what someone will pay you. And if he produces like the last 2 years, someone will pay him much more guaranteed $, which Rooneys refused to pay. Smart or not, that is the reality.

To take the emotion out of the discussion, lets ponder the situation of two different hypothetical running backs.
Let's call them Player A and Player B - or perhaps Player Killer B.

Player A had more rushing yds than Player B
Player A had more rushing TDs than B
    Player A had a more yd/carry than B
Player A has more receptions, more recieving TDs and more yd per catch than B
Player A is 2-1/2 yrs younger than Player B
Player B has had two more suspensions than Player A.

So, I ask you salary cap savvy wannabe GMs, which player would you give more guarenteed money to?
If Player B had Players A's youth and numbers, he'd get a similar contract and it would be nearly universally cheered. But he doesn't.

My left brain was one of the ones who thought there was a reasonable chance of signing Bell next tear. My right brain just smacked my left brain.

Gurley’s new deal is now a 6 year $73 million deal. Obviously the guaranteed money is what the deal is all about but he’s only receiving a little north of $12 mill a year.

Everyone can stop saying he got $15 mill a year.

Bell wanted that guranteed money. His main focus wasnt the yearly average.

$10mm signing bonus plus first year salary ($14mm?) would have been $20-$25mm guaranteed. Steelers did right thing. It was a fair offer.

Bell has stated he would take less guaranteed for a high yearly salary...was that 17 a year or would it take 20 a year...who knows...

Rams are dumb, how are you goin* to prioritize a rb ext. over the best def end in football...if they are able to sign Donald, there’s not gonna be a lot left over for Peters extension.

Bell is a real good player..I'm not disputing that, but there are many among us who feel he just wasn't worth the money he was demanding ..The front office made a decision and i myself feel it was the correct one..You cant mortgage the future on one player when you have other needs..period ....

The Steelers were never going to guarantee that type of money to Bell, I hope he enjoys playing for the Jets next season.

Not sure I agree with any of that. Have you seen highlights of Gurley. He is VERY dynamic. Much better breakaway speed than Bell. But dynamic is a judgement so let's talk stats.

    Receiving
    Bell 85 REC, 655 YDS, 7.7 AVG, 2TDs
    Gurley 64 REC, 788 YDS, 12.3 AVG, 6 TDS
Gurley has more yards and more TDs on fewer catches. Bell's stats point to a safety valve, Gurley is the one who looks like a WR based on these stats.

    Rushing
    Bell 321 carries, 1291 YDS, 4.0 AVG, 9TDs
    Gurley 279 carries, 1305 YDS, 4.7 AVG, 13 TDS
Again, Gurley has more yards and more TDs on fewer carries.

And, let's go back to 'dynamic' and look at longest plays.
Bell longest run = 27 yds, longest catch = 42 yds
Gurley longest run = 57 yds, longest catch = 80 yds

To be clear, I'm not saying Bell isn't a great back and he may even be better, but by stats alone Gurley is better. Not to mention younger and with less mileage.
