I've always known that Gildon was our all time sack leader but didn't realize that Harrison was so far up there. I thought this list was interesting and wanted to share if anyone else was interested.

I still think that Gildon is extremely under appreciated as a player. He's also an example of a class act. I remember going to a game during the 2010 season. We were walking into the game and I see Gildon standing a few people up, I couldn't believe it. No one else there even recognized him. I approached him trying to be discreet as possible so I wouldn't draw attention to him and shook his hand to thank him for what he did here as a Steeler. He was extremely humble and thankful. We hung out for about the next 15 min just talking on. He said that he regulary attends games with a few of his friends. I asked where he sits and he sits in the regular seats just like everyone else. He said that he is a huge Steelers fan and always will be and is greatful that he was able to play here. He was such a cool guy and I was proud to wear his jersey for so many years.

If Harrison hadn't been a late bloomer, he'd be in the Hall of Fame discussion.

If he stays healthy Woodley should be our eventual #1.

    Cheers.

What's the list like when it includes the unofficial numbers, like Greenwood?

    I'm all questions today...

That's awesome. He was one of my favorites when he was around, but always seemed off the grid, off the map, Aaron Smith style. I don't know why he didn't get more attention around the league. He was a great player.

Mine too! I always wondered that myself. True Steelers such you and I and many others on here realize what an asset he was to the organization. Its just ashame that he didn't get the kudos that he deserved. Sometimes though, I think that gives certain players an edge and puts a chip on their shoulder and lets them take it out on the opposing team on the field. I think these guys like the underdog role sometimes. Its guys like this whose jerseys I'll wear. Keisel is another one who I've met on a few occasions through a mutual friend and is another down to earth and a extremely humble guy. People use to laugh at me back in 05 when I had a customized Keisel jersey made, hell, even he was shocked but thankful. Extremely cool guy!

JD99, I loved reading that story. Jason was one of my favorites and even though I liked Porter and Lloyd I just thought Gildon was better and under appreciated.

I too wish someone would compile a list that goes back to 69-current. I'm curious where Joe Green would be.

Cool story JD. Some surprises on that list for me, I didn't realize Woodley racked up that many already. And I thought Greene and Chad would have had more but then again, they played during the FA mass defection period.

Gildon is totally underrated. Wow, Aaron Smith - 44 for a dude who's job is to NOT sack the QB.

Quite. Not someone who often appears on the "all-time teams" and whatnot - though I do remember when we had that thread a few months ago one or two people included him. Like Merriweather, he was in those less-remembered 80's teams, which always counts against him when it comes to thinking back on Steeler greats.

Woodley has a chance at being the all-time leader before he is done, he still pretty young.

Yes, I hear ya on Woodley. I think he'll easily end up breaking Gildon's record. The one who suprised me was Willis being at #3. I also thought that Kirkland would have had more.
