Just read it on the bottom of the screen on NFL Network. Apparently 7 years after he last played, he'll sign a 1 day contract to retire with the Steelers.

Weird, but I have no problem with it. Kinda cool I guess. I'm still a big fan of his, and I think he got the shaft (insert gay joke here, 'phobes!) from the city and the fans.
Thanks for the memories :towel: :good:

Presumably they're doing the same thing for Stewart as they'll do with Farrior. Someone at head office has discovered the form for "one day then retire" contracts. Maybe I should ask if I can get one?

More seriously, I'm happy for him to do this. We tend to forget (other than when HugeSnack or myself bangs on about it) how exciting he was when he first came on to the scene, and all the potential there was for a slash role which nobody else was really doing at that time.

Didn't realise he was in a state of unretirement, though.

Totally agree... But, I also think he should have kept to receiver.

Probably the worst QB we've had in 35 years. Extremely talented Athlete but just didn't have what it took to be an NFL QB. If we would have had Ben instead of Kordell our Trophy case would be full. We had Great teams while he was here but he was the weak link in my opinion.

Absolutely. I still believe that if Stewart had committed to playing receiver he would have a much different standing in Steelers' lore than he does today. He was big, fast, had great hands and I would have loved to have seen what he could have done full-time as a receiver with proper coaching and a season or two playing it full-time.

IMO, there should be a statute of limitations on doing something like this. Seven years after you last play a game in the NFL means you are irrelevant (unless you're about to get enshrined in the hall of fame).

Exactly. All I could do this morning when I heard this was scratch my head and wonder 'why now?'.

Let's refrain from that kind of nonsense, Coke Oven.

Give the guy credit for wanting to retire a Steeler.
I have more respect for Kordell than Nelly O'Donnell who turned down an opportunity with the Steelers to stay a back-up QB with the Titans.
Once a Steelers always a Steelers.

I predict this opens the floodgates for numerous other retirements soon. Will Blackwell, Tim Lester, Bennie Cunningham...

    Ooooooooooof course.

I don't feel like getting into how he was underrated and sabotaged, or listing his accomplishments, or how it really wasn't his fault we didn't get to the 2001 Super Bowl, or that if you look outside of our team and winning (totally optional) you can see the amazing things he did for the sport, so I will just list some of our other starters in the last... oh let's say 20 years.

    Kent Graham
    Bubby Brister
    Tommy Maddox
    Jim Miller
    Mike Tomczak

If say you'd take any of those guys over Kordell, I just won't believe you. I don't think anyone could be that wrong. I know the fan base proved to the world how stupid it was when it foolishly fell in love with Tommy Maddox, but I think they've come to see what he really was since then.

As a Colorado fan, I will always remember the 'hail mary' pass he threw to beat Michigan.

Good for him. Kordell is a perfect example of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, they did not tailor the offense to fit his strengths, rather they tried to force Kordell to conform to their offense. What a waste, an extremely gifted athlete used poorly. Glad he gets to retire a Steeler.

You've obviously forgotten about Kent Graham.

Kordell wasnt bad. Just annoyingly frustrating. He'd look like he'd finally gotten it...like a world beater...for 3 or 4 games, then go into the tank for the next 5.

In a word he was inconsistent. He was Mike Vick before Mike Vick and without the dog fighting.

Best of luck to him. One of the most exciting Steelers to watch. It was a shame the way some so-called fans treated this kid.

I agree with this.....He was a gifted Guy and had he ran the correct system he probably could have won 3 or 4 Superbowls with our Team and the talent we had around him.......If you took Stewart and put him in the modern day Zone Read like Cam and Tebow ran last year, and couple that with the rest of the great talent he had around him he would have shook up the world....

The bottom linde is Stewart was a great player and a good QB who was a system away from being a elite QB.....

Don't listen to those other guys. I for one respect you for not knowing/caring that we've officially reached the point where you're supposed to be at least a little ashamed of being a bigot. A lot of cowards out there cave to stupid old political correctness and either pretend that it's okay to be gay, black, or both, or actually believe it really is okay! (omg how crazy is that.) Way to stick to your guns. I admire that.

http://www.godhatesfags.com/ Here you go, in case you're looking for someone like yourself to hang out or get some drinks with (not in a gay way -- unless you decide that's what you want, in which case I'll fully support you, I mean tell you you'll burn in hell).
