On paper it seems that as it’s a perfect scenario for the kid not to be thrown into the fire and have a few years under one of the best in the game!Best value pick for sure!1st round picks are usually expected to jump right in and contribute right away and not be projects. Not sure how we did in that round!!!

All you guys saying LOLandry stays, BOO! It is no secret I can't stand him. If I ever saw him in a Bear fight, I would HELP THE BEAR. So don't tell me he is good. He is good only for backing up to the pay window

OK your obvious dislike for him aside can you honestly lookat how this team does business and say that a still very raw Dobbs has an edge over the guy they have been developing as a solid backup for the last five years? I don't have a dog in this fight and have no opinion on either Dobbs or Jones I'm just looking at the facts. Jones has played and won Dobbs hasn't gotten real game experience yet. They will keep Jones and potentially PS Dobbs.

On a side note, I was reading an old book on Bradshaw. One of the first times someone realized he had big time QB talent was in high school and he overthrew a receiver.......by 72 yards.

Landry also has won some games, I trust him over Dobbs and Rudolph any day.

I'm glad he's a Steeler, but the first day of camp Fichtner needs to go over how to properly grip a football using the threads. :roflmao:

    He will be a superstar.

I’ll bet on it. At least as good as Landry if not better

Uh, well if he's going to be a superstar, I hope he's at least as good as Landry, lol. Or did you forget the green font? :hmm:

While I like the pick, I also was excited when the Steelers drafted another QB from the state of Oklahoma named Landry Jones. So we'll see.

The Steelers absolutely need a real QB coach. Finchtner's track record with developing QB's is not good.

The guy hasn't been on the field yet , and people are already jumping down his throat lol He already fits in with the Steelers x-mas songs. Just hope he doesn't end up with a bloody nose like Ben did, or he'll hear it. Going to have to add some Reindeer smilies

I just hope, finally, this one's skill-set is transferable to the NFL. We've had a LONG list of QB busts

I predict Dobbs will get cut, only to be resigned to the practice squad.

What I saw was a guy who could throw it accurately a long ways but he throws giant looping passes instead of direct, on a line, passes.

At times, on crossing routes and in the red zone, he would widen his stance and wind up his arm and throw with some heat but he only did that when he felt he had to. So, he does have the arm strength but he's used to leading the deep WR with a lob pass in front of him. He can't put that much air under it anymore. The pass has to get there quicker.

Folks, it has literally been years since I have been in here. I came over when the old website was tanking and this one was just created. So, it has been a long time replying here, but I read the forum pretty regularly.

That being said, I happen to work in Rock Hill and live in a nearby town. I refereed this kid in HS basketball.

Anyway, in case you did not know, Chris Hope was also from Rock Hill. FYI on Rock Hill, it has produced more NFL players than any other city of its size in the U.S. Clowney was another Rock Hill kid. So the area is incredibly hot with talent.

IMO, this was a great pick. The kid I believe is the real deal and could end up being another Marino mistake. Just a thought. Marino was bashed and his draft stock was severely impacted before that draft and look how that worked out. These pointy head draft guru's are not right all that often. They downplayed MR for what? Not looking at the 3rd or 4th option? Did anyone actually watch this kid. They ran a pro style offense in no huddle. He did not need to look at more than 2 options. He got the ball out really well. I watched this kid as much as I could all year since he was from where I live. FYI, I was born and raised in Western Pa, moved to NE and yes, lived there 28 years before moving to South Carolina 14 years ago.

Also realize when this kid says he always wanted to play for the Steelers, I believe him. This area is a huge fan base for the Steelers. Anyone doubting that need only watch the Charlotte Panthers when the Steelers are there and half the stadium are Steeler fans. I have been to two games in Charlotte to see the Steelers and it is no joke how many Steeler fans there are down here. Riding the light rail in to the stadium last time, it was totally packed with Steeler fans. So, it is not without reason that he would like the steelers.

A few years ago, Chris Hope put on a charity basketball game at MR high school. This was a while ago when Clowney had just graduated HS. Anyway, I got to referee that game and there were a couple of Steelers playing. Ike was there and so was Townsend. Hines was supposed to be there but he was in the middle of Dancing with The Stars. That is how long ago it was, but believe me, the gym was packed with Steeler fans and Hope still considered himself a Steeler even though he was playing for the Titans.

Sorry for the long winded reply but I thought I would just throw in a bit on MR. He is a good kid. I've heard nothing bad on him. He has a good head and appears to really want to play for the Steelers. No that in and of itself means little since a lot of guys want to play for the Steelers. Hopefully he can deliver. I've seen enough of Landry Jones. Good backup but this could be the future.

As for Washington his teammate, he WAS the best receiver in the nation his junior year when he won the Blitnekof (sp) award, so this kid is not Bryant. Remember too that many in here poo-pooed Ju-Ju as a crap pick and he sure did not play like a crap pick. Let's see what happens.

What is apparent is that the Steelers have now been backed in to a corner and have decided to move in the same direction as the Patriots where defense is seconday. Basically, we will give up 35 but our offense will score 36, so they are building a team that is reflective of the system that has worked for the Pats. I don't like it but it is what it is. I don't think the defensive players were there that the Steelers needed or wanted, so they went more on the offensive side.

I guess we will see. But don't be surprised at MR. I think he is the real deal.
