If you could have any player to build your team around who would you take and why? (currently active players only)

    Aaron Rodgers

He's the best combo of ability and youth in the NFL. He plays the most important position in football, he's smart and makes good decisions, he can make all the throws you want, he's a leader, and he has great mobility too.

I'm a Steeler homer so I'll pick a unit from the current squad. Give me the O-line of Adams, Colon, Pouncey, DeCastro and Gilbert. A dominant O-line cures alot of shortcomings.

I'll also throw in, if I had to pick a defensive player, Jason Pierre Paul is a guy that I really like. I love the Giants' style of just grabbing playmakers and moving them all over the defense.

Patrick Willis. When I think of how close we came to getting him.... I like LT and all, but he is no Willis.

It's interesting to see where everyone's mindset is when building a team. I personally prefer the defensive side of the ball. But that could be because the old adage of defense wins championships has been pounded into my brain since I was a kid. And I've seen what Ray Lewis could do in his prime.

Rodgers is great starting piece but I'm thinking someone like Willis or Polamalu for my team. Although I'm not sure how much Troy has left in the tank.

And seeing that completely and routinely wiped off the map by little old Dan Kreider, who played a position half the people here don't want to exist, makes me realize the importance of a good fullback. Sigh....

    Tim Tebow.

Now hear me out. I don't really like him, I think he's a lot of hype. But if you were to build a team from the ground up, you could customize the team to what he does well. I think an offense based solely around his skill set could work in the NFL. Plus, he seems that he would be a good leader and positive locker room influence.

Without a shadow of a doubt. Big Ben. On the field this guy is a true leader and will battle til he's beaten down and bloodied and then pop back up and fight and claw his way all the way until the final whistle blows. Even when he is at 50 % physically, he will still give 110 % of his effort. Sometimes this is not always a good thing though. See SF game. But with that kind of leadership I would want no other.

second choice is Andrew Luck. Unfortunately, BA will limit his abilities tremendously with his 5 play script and situational playcalling limitations.

Tebow is a giant distraction with very little skill (although we managed to make him look like Montana) but I respect you for putting that out there.... :)

I would build my team around Brady as much as it pains me to say it.

    Offense: Drew Brees
    Defense: Revis maybe?

Snack, so you're saying you want to build your team around a fullback?

I'd say the Redskins did this with John Riggins. Different type of player, though.

    Aaron Rodgers on offence.

Nstompakong Suh on defence (yes, I'd switch to a 4-3). Or I'd take Willis if we stick with the 3-4.

No, I'm just pointing out that a fullback took care of Lewis (who some consider among the best MLBs of all time) like Revis takes care of wide receivers, and people act like it's barely even a position, on par with punt team gunners.

As for the question, "build your team around" makes me think it absolutely has to be a quarterback. Revis and Willis will dominate anywhere. So it's hard not to say Rodgers, or a healthy Manning. If I was selecting first in a draft that included the whole league, my answer might be different.

AARON RODGERS. Simply the best playmaker in the game today.

Patrick Willis bar none. Went to college with the guy. All heart, unlimited potential, exceptional athelete, born leader. Watched in go from a 3rd string outside linebacker in a 4-2-5 to an all SEC middle linebacker in a 4-3 in a year, then an all American the next year. Keep him in the middle of a 3-4 or play him at either MLB or SAM in a 4-3. The guy can do it all...
