If you look at the charts and the success rate you will see that we got a lot better running over LG and LT in 2011 .....As I stated in another thread, Redman is a killer RB when he starts left,he has always been and all his tapes from HS on show that...

So just like I said in the OTA thread the new RG who can pull left better than any in the NFL coupled with the new OC who is a master of the game ,and the addition of Colon and Adams at LG and LT there is no reason to think that Redman will not excel this season...

Plus another very Important factor as to why Red's YPC will go way up,is the simple fact that Redzone got a lot of work on short yardage when the D knew he was coming.....The new reality is Coach Haley will mix it up enough to keep the D guessing as a result Redman's numbers will get even better....

As I said in the OTA thread Redzome will have a very high YPC this year so as a Football guy I know everything else will work better as well.....This should slow some of the all I can do is laugh stuff...If not ? Then I can't wait for my I told you so time.....

You mean Colon and Adams at LG and LT.

I think all of our RBs will look better this year than ever before. As someone that is a heavy supporter of Mendenhall (as well as Redman), I'm not looking forward to the "OMG look how much better Redman is than Mendenhall" talk while Rashard is out and Redman is running through gaping holes in our new offense. The timing of his injury is brutal, because this is when he could have really exploded into the league. Can only hope he'll be 100% whenever he comes back, and not slowed down in his lateral movement. I don't mean to complain about what will surely be better run blocking, better pass blocking, and better play calling. I'm just not looking forward to the misplaced anti-Mendenhall message board backlash.

We'll have a better system and better blockers, and we'll be more balanced. I knew we preferred to run right, but I didn't realize how out of whack it was until reviewing the season. I'm looking forward to going to both sides from now on.

TY for the correction I edited...I for one have always respected Mendy and believe he is a very Good RB as well.....He is better suited as a slasher IMO and as a pass catcher ,but I do see your point......I still believe that Redman is the best suited for our Team I think his power running helps beat down the pass defenders better than Mendy,,,I also think Redmans lack of Home run ability helps our Team because it leads to long sustained drives which will help our D stay fresh and show less blitzes....IMO Mendenhall would be at his best with a spread Team that has a strong pass D......

This would allow him to be the big play guy that his skills are best suited for....

Also it wont be the gaping holes that I will be looking at,it will be the yards after contact ......IMO Redman is in the top 5 in that area, and if we can block and scheme our way to get Redman 1 on 1 for 3 to 4 yards down the field his North and South style will really shine when smaller uys are trying to tackle him with a full head of steam...

I think you would agree that Redman does hit the hole with more power and he refuses to go down more than Mendy....This is not to say Mendy is bad he is just of a different style for the most part...

Redman is a Gap system runner which makes him the best fit for Haley and Mendenhall is best suited for a Zone blocking system....This has always been a huge part of the problem....We simply don't have a zone blocking OL IMO....We are best suited to man or Gap block....

Both players would be outstanding players on any team, and we're lucky to have them both. It's a shame so much was wasted on BA and that terrible line.

As far as yards after contact, if Redman is 5 stars, Mendy is 4. He's not quite as good, but almost no one in the league is. Mendenhall is still great at that part of the game in his own right, people just lose sight of it with Redman on the roster. Redman is the type of RB that can handle zero blocking better than any other type. He'll absolutely benefit from better blocking, but I think Mendenhall will benefit more, if he's healthy.

No you are wrong, Mendy would dance around too much and see those gaping holes close up (heavy heavy sarcasm) On a serious note, this is Mendys last year under contract no? I think he is done here, especially if Redman kills it this season. There's also Batch, Dwyer and Clay lining up for a shot.

I hope this isn't Mendy's last season. I truly believe that with a greatly improved line and Haley calling the plays, Mendy has the ability to be a Lesean McCoy or Forte type player. He's such a huge playmaker, although the only thing we have ever used him for is to run him up the gut behind a weak line. We have wasted his talent so far. I hope he comes back healthy at some point this year, I want to see what him and Haley can do together in front of a good line.

    Amen. :good:

I think it would take quite a lot for the Steelers to part with a first round pick. Maybe if he was showing signs of problems with recovery, or something. But otherwise there would be a fair few eyebrows raised if he was just let go.

Honestly, I think he's better than both those guys. If he's not the same back because of the ACL tear then I'm okay letting him go. If he has a full recovery though, then I would be very disappointed if we let him walk. I like the guys we have behind him, and now with Rainey and Batch we have everything we need in a running back... but we don't have it all in one guy outside of Mendenhall.

Totally agree with this conversation, but keeping him, with the upcoming signings of Brown and Sanders at the same time and the new draft picks in next years draft and whatever will happen with Wallace this year leads me to believe much more cap drama to come. It will eclipse whatever we've seen this year or controversial decisions in Steelers history. Short of but maybe even the Woodson release.

They let Burres walk away and he was a productive 1st rounder with his best years (possibly) ahead of him and no injury issues to speak of.

Letting Mendy go as well as a member of the young money crew will be a tough pill to swallow.

We just have so much talent.

Who gets cut next year to free up roster space and cap room? 2 QB's, Foote, 1 or 2 back up LB's maybe after that, I don't know.

Don't kill me: - I wouldn't be shocked if Harrison declines a touch they entertain a release in some fashion. Or even scarier, we win a superbowl and Troy decides to call it quits. I think he's made enough money for his sensabilities and achieved everything he could professionally in a careershort of a SB MVP. Quality of life and his family would be more important than hanging around for another concussion. I would trade the mentioned MVP for an aged Polamalu at this point in a heart beat!

It would be a magical end to a perfect 1st ballot HOF career!!! Please let this happen... :praying:

Redman needs to hold onto the football better at the end of last season he was gaining good yardage but fumbling the game against the Browns.

We might be able to get Mendenhall cheaper next year because of the injury.

I doubt it. Unless there is significant drop off in his abilities. Then keeping him doesn't make much sense with our payroll and in house talent.

Another nice chart....Redman over 6.0 YPC last year going over LG and as I stated a better blocker at LG, a guy with 2 good knees at least ,and the best RG puller in the Nfl.....

Quick Trap left will be a killer, next play in that progression is the TE slant ,followed by a swing pass to the other RB from the Ace set on the backside....Then after we get them spread out and thin the Deep Post 1 on 1 from the backside WR........

Teams will have no answers ..........

I hope we see quick trap from multiple sets the I, brocken I ,Ace,1 RB,over and under all the RB sets .....I feel that Haley will use this 1 play to create a good portion of the playbook....Simply by running it from all the sets and to the strong and weak sides and with or without motion we will have like 8 runs to the same hole..... All of them with different PA route Trees...

Oh what a wonderful thing to know we are going to have a strong plan to match our strong players for a change.....

sorry pwp, didn't mean to get off topic here. red should have a very good year as should all of our backs. we have a really nice mix of power and speed with this stable. i read on steeler depot that clay had a really good burst through the line in ota's. dwyer looked fat again to me, but hopefully he comes in rock hard when the hitting begins. they also said batch looked good so far. fresh legs, new stable of young horses up front, teeheehee i feel like a giddy school girl waiting to see this unfold this year. on both sides of the ball. :praying:

For a second there I thought you meant Omar Jacobs, poised to make a comeback and steal Ben's place on the roster.

A slight exaggeration, there. I think I would agree with your analyses more, PWP, if you didn't make out that by employing PA opposing defenses will simply be left standing around scratching their heads, unable to comprehend the ingenuity of Haley's offense. Tone down the guarantees, and your argument becomes more convincing.

Don't get me wrong, though, I think we have reason to be very optimistic, and I can't wait for the preseason to start (and hearing your take on Haley's offense when we finally get to see it in action).

Well the talent level is why Teams will have no answers combined with the plan....We simply have a wealth of talent that our other OC did not use,we now have even more talent....

As far as waiting to see the Offense,I really don't need to....I have playbooks full of what Haley is going to run....I have seen Thousands of hours of film just like the O Haley will run......If our guys stay Healthy we simply have to much talent for Teams to stop.....

To many good run blockers on the OL...
To much power at RB to scheme to stop with 1 man....
To much Talent from Miller at TE ,he will win against almost any LB in the NFL....
Speed,Speed, and more Speed at WR....
Plus a strong armed QB who can make all the throws......

If Ben buys in quickly and we stay healthy I think we have a good chance to win every game....
