I wonder how many kids today even think what this day means or if it's just a big BBQ weekend with beers and girls? Not that there is anything wrong with BBQ's beers and girls but sad that they don't realize why they get to enjoy those things.

"They should" - is how I stated it. I don't think you were going here, but I'll say it anyway. You said "students" , maybe just referring back to when you said "kids" earlier in reference to their age, But I want to make a distinction here and call them children and leave the student/school aspect out of it for a moment. These are people's offspring!!! It's the parents fault these young people aren't aware of what should be common knowledge. Then the schools. Schools have a lot of responsibilities. Challenge the kids, show them how to exercise their brain muscle as well as inform. Parenting is not only sending them to good schools and being supportive in their scholastic education but, doing the teaching and challenging in the first place! I don't want to get into politics here at all, but what do these parents talk to their kids about?!?!?! Reality TV, video games and dare I say it SPORTS all the time? I bet most kids don't know how long we have been in these CURRENT wars for. Yes I said MOST KIDS, not some.

Oh I totally agree, it's not entirely kids fault, in fact I have read that schools are purposely eliminating that sort of stuff from the curriculum. I just thought it funny and sad how little they know about their history. I mean really, not even the Revolutionary War??? Wow.

What stuff? History? Geography? American Government? National equivalency testing measures are ruining things.
