I disagree with that. I took a quick video of an example from last season for you. He's not Peyton Manning by any means, but he doesn't have a problem running play action even with a bad foot. Sure, it's just one play, but it's a fine example. There are more, but this one I could recall from memory.

I do however strongly agree with you that there are many factors involved. Two of our biggest issues with PA success in recent history are A) offensive line performance (which should be substantially upgraded this coming season) and B) situational play calling (sorry to beat that horse, but it's true). Expect to see more of it, and expect to see it run with regular success. David DeCastro was used in PA situations frequently at Stanford to help sell the run, and it was a big part of why Luck was successful running it. Not to take away from Luck being Luck, but like we said, there are different factors that come together. If Coach Haley is as adept at using the tools he's given as some say, then I'd fully expect to see DD pulling to sell the PA on occasion.
Here's an OK example of that. There are better ones out there for sure, as I've seen them, but I don't have the time at the moment to sift through them.

It was the times he chose to run it, the way he ran it. At all the wrong places on the field, against all the wrong defenses, with all the wrong blockers. "Automatic 5 yards every time" makes it sound like it was a consistent play, when it was anything but. Instead of the results being 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, it was more like 8, 0, 11, -2, 10, -1, game-ending fumble in the playoffs. 5 yard average, but worth it? It can get us a cheap first down on the first play of the game, and it can absolutely murder our drive down at the opponent's 12 yard line. If we ever had to play against Troy Polamalu, he'd get a pick 6 every week on that play.

I love the play, I hate the places and ways it was run, and the number of times it was run. "Burn the page from the playbook" is a popular sentiment and an overreaction. "Fire BA" is a more sensible approach, and we did that. The play can stay, and let's see how Haley executes it.

Ah, cheers for the vids. I'm afraid I was doing the age-old MB trick of going off my general memory of seeing some very unvconvincing fakes, but these probably just stuck in my head more. I take back "frankly awful" (though still have my reservations about upgrading it to "solidly consistent").

Tomlin also stated last season before that broncos playoff game that Clark will be on the sideline and this would prepare him for his coaching career.

That makes more sense. Its still a big jump, but if he has the frame for it I guess it can be done with mostly muscle. At least I hope :)
I am pulling for McClendon. Another Undrafted success story in the making. It would be great to see he and Ta'Amu be the anchoring pair that Hoke and Hampton were for so many years.

if you didn't notice in that great play fake was the block fake by ward. that will be sorely missed. DB's got so used to him blocking on run plays, they tried to avoid him and headed into the line early for the run, hines made a quick little move and was wide open. teams will look for our receivers more for the catch then the block until one of them shows different. the play action fake by ben was one thing but the block fake made it possible.

True. I hadn't really thought of how Ward might affect the receiving game in that way, but you're absolutely right. Hopefully someone picks that kind of hustle up.

I think the base of my original point to PWP, though, was that our offensive success or lack thereof cannot all be assigned to Isaac Redman and Bruce Arians.

Not the be all end all just the combo was enough to end the season....As stated under Haley this will not happen he is actually Football smart...He understands thet Football is an emotional game he knows how running and passing work together....

There is a nice article on the Steelers main site about Redman and the Denver game, the OC should have felt the emotion and fed off of it...The problem is he probably did and just ignored it ,because of his Love for the passing game and the big play....

Redman could have had a 5.0 yards or better average with the OL we had if BA Loved the run game or if BA understood football, sadly BA does not....With the combo of a upgraded OL and the huge upgrade at OC Redman will have 1 of the highest YPC'S ever next year.....I predict a stellar 5.5 or better because Haley will stretch the D and keep them guessing...As a reult hr will scheme Redman to a 3 or 4 yard gain most of the time and at that point the talent of the OL and the talent of Redman will gain 3 or more yards on a regular basis...

The tape I watched under BA he would scheme for a 2 yard loss and Redman still would average around 4 ypc....Also Steelersdepot has a article saying pretty much exactly the same thing I have been saying.....Look for the power game, look for PA, and watch this O perform the way it should have for years..
