Just curious to see what you guys thought about it this year. Looked like they had some if not as much as I would have liked to keep guys fresh.

They had McCullers dressed and he never saw a snap in there.

Since they don't sit in base that much anymore, might as well fill that spot with another DE that can get after the QB and have a real rotation like some of these other successful defenses.

That's the only way to get consistent pressure for the full game and the season.

That is why i hope payne or vea will fall to us. They aint getting pressure but one guy aint blocking them either

For me its a big need now that burnett is signed.

I like how our starting and back up ends compare to the rest of the league...... the middle is another story. At this stage it's safe to assume that mt. McCullers is not the rotational answer and needs to be replaced

I for the life of me will never understand why you cut James Harrison and keep McCullers.
Harrison must of been that big of pain in the butt about playing time.

They are making the rounds looking at some d-linemen up and down this draft. We could get one in near any round except for the first 2-3 I would say. Same with the o-linemen. We are looking at guys and we need some depth. I don't think it's any coincidence that we have brought in a new and second D-Line coach, we are looking for some better play against the run, as well as keeping the pass rush from this group at a high level. I expect we may be looking at a different type of player able to do both and allowing us to rest heyward and tuitt in this hybrid two down linemen look.

Cam is a stud and so is Tuitt (I think he was playing hurt all season). Alualu was a great signing and Walton is serviceable so our DE's are set.

Hargraves didn't make a lot of splash plays, but I think they like him. McCullers barely played so I think they will be looking for his replacement in the later rounds of the draft.

Aaron Smith, Kimo, and Keisel didn't need to be constantly rotated out... just sayin.

I don't know about D-Line, but pass rushers prefer staying in there so they get a feel for the guy they are going against. There is definitely a chess match that is played and you can't really do that if you are constantly subbed off.

Would love to get NT Settle in the 2nd ...Reminds me of a young Casey Hampton...Big, quick, and strong as an Ox...THIS...Would help our pass rush imo like Hampton helped when he was in his prime...Command double teams, and push the pocket...So the OLB's can pin their ears back, and get to the QB!

They play that hybrid so much though and that will require a little different type of player. A DT type that can move. Seems like we are looking at the 300 plus LB. guys that have some short area quickness and run around the 5.00 mark. This shows they can move down the line if needed. They also have to have some strength. Now hooks is still here so he will have to show something if he's to be kept around. He is running short on PS time though. I know taking heyward and tuitt off the field is not ideal but they have been playing a lot of downs and I think they are trying to keep them fresher for the long season. They are getting older with a lot of field time and that starts to take a toll eventually.

Different philosophy on defense now. They're letting the ends rush. Those guys got the benefit of things being flushed to them because of the OLB' being so dominant. (and the other way around)

If you're not fresh in a tight game late?!? Forget about getting to the QB!

    Which is NFLese for unemployed.

I feel bad for McCullers. He had 1 1/2 sacks and 16 tackles in 4 years, and was severely underpaid at $2,298,680

Better ask Tomlin, he is the culprit who lied to JH at beginning of last season.

There's no way they manage to grab him after they go after their top priorities..

Would be nice, because then they could strictly use Hargraves as a De in the rotation.

Enlighten us, what exactly did Tomlin lie about?
I'm not talking about speculation or opinions. Let's hear some facts.

Here is a fact. Harrison went from 53 tackles down to 3. He and Jarvis combined for 94 tackles, 6 sacks, 4 FF and an int.. Watt and Dupree had 94 tackles combined with1 1 FF and 1 pick at least they had 13 sacks. Not a big jump in production though on the tackle and FF front.
