99 was a lousy 6-10 season much like the dismall 98 7-9 season, another thing that seems strange, is why did we play the jaguars twice during that 99 regular season, and worse yet we lost to them twice, they lost 7 of their last 8 games in 99 and fans was screaming for cowhers head.....

You have a short memory. You obviously forgot the many teams wanting to hire him away from us after developing LB after LB into great players for years. He played a key role in building one of the most consistently good defenses and he deserved credit. The owners knew it and DL knew it. Which is why we did Everything we could to keep him around till DL would retire. DL never wanted to retire and the defense was in need of an overhaul... so this was the perfect time to give the job to Butler rather then let him walk as many teams wanted him.

The defense has suffered from lack of talent and growing pains. You can probably name 5-6 players on defense that should be replaced right now. That’s almost half the starters and we were showing signs of being good half way through the season before the wheels fell off.

The GM hasn't been doing Butler any favors.

What happened to the "player development" that Haley bragged about on the O side of the ball? Butler is fail at that now? You (collective) give him credit for developing talent in the 90's, but when so many players are flops recently, player development is not his fault - all those dud LBs are now GM's fault.

At the time, the Jags were in the AFC Central with the Steelers, Oilers/Titans, Ravens, Browns, Bengals

It's going to be a big year for our defensive coordinator Tomlin, I mean Butler.

If you listen to people around here it's Porters fault.

We did have a lot of sacks last year. Tom Bradley might be a back up successer plan.

Don't like him. He doesn't bring an identity to the defense and I'm still confused on what is his focus and scheme? A speedy fast defense with lockdown secondary play and rushers? Or a smashmoutg hit you in the nose front 7 with a solid secondary? Idk and he doesn't compare to a jim schwartz, wade phillips, matt Patricia, etc..

Us having alot sacks was overrated. Most came against the browns, Texans, colts, Bengals etc... of the world. The rush was non existent against elite teams.
