Eagles had a big win over the Patriots, something Steelers haven't been able to do in the post-season.

What can we learn from the Eagles and their game plan against the Patriots if we want compete for a Championship?

    Attack for 60 minutes.

Can't put NE away trying to sit on a lead.

I agree whole heartedly. My biggest takeaway from that game was the amount of balls Pederson showed throughout the entire game. Too many teams, especially us, sit on a 3 point lead with the Pats and end up losing.

Knock the ball out of the QB’s hand.

    Don’t rely entirely on Bell.
Run the ball with multiple backs.

Pressure Brady. It's always been the answer. That, and keep the throttle down on offense. These aren't new ideas though.

Forget the Eagles, I'm 100% serious when I say Steelers personnel should go meet with Penguins ownership and coaches.

Tomlin needs to have dinner with Coach Sullivan. He can get a wealth of insight in to building a SOLID team system, deal with pushing forward despite multiple injuries etc.. Pens had a huge amount of injuries and are still back-to-back defending Stanley Cup champions. And remember that tremendous HBK line? Imagine getting the offensive line to that level of harmony and efficiency!

Sure, a football coach like Tomlin doesn't need to know the finer points of an effective line change in hockey and whatnot! However, the two coaches (different sport or not) can teach each other A LOT to both be successful.

Eagles BARELY won. The turnover, knocking the ball out of Brady`s hand, was the difference. So I would say the lesson is you need a play maker on defense that can cause turnovers. Shazier was that guy for us and we did not have him when we needed him. We need to pick a play maker or a difference maker on defense in the draft.

If no LB playmaker available when we pick, then we need to pick a DB playmaker.

The eagles secondary was horrible, so we already have that one down pat. NE had guys wide open 20.. 30 yards down field, Mitchell could play for them

Barely won. Were you watching the same game as the rest of us? I agree that turnover was good but how did they get it.They kept pressure on Brady the whole game. They out played the Pats in all aspects of the game and guess what. It is something the Steelers need to learn if we are ever going to go for another SB. And in my opinion we need a more motivated coach and staff.

The way the eagles are talking at the parade, they’re closer and care more than any other team.

Now that most of the anxiety of losing to both the Pats in December and Jags in Jan, here's a fresher look at the Title of this thread and an attempt at a serious response.

Statistically, why would the Steelers have to look at Philly to game plan against the Pats? While it's true, only the bottom line counts - Philly won and Steelers lost, it can be debated that both games came down to 1 or 2 plays that determined the final outcome. Even with Philly winning, it doesn't mean that Philly had an overall better game plan or execution of it throughout the SB. Steelers dominated TOP 35 min to 25 min; held Brady to over 200 fewer passing yds than Philly did - 298 vs 505; Steelers led or were tied for the 1st 3 qtrs of the game; Steelers out-gained Pats in Total yds 413-360; and, Pgh held Pats to 6 fewer points than Philly 27 vs 33. While it certainly looked like Foles consistently had his way with the Pats D, the Steeler's D outplayed Philly's D, except for that critical late strip/fumble. All in all, Philly's offensive petal to the metal aggressiveness on 3rd and 4th downs, the Refs upholding 2 crucial TD calls in Philly's favor and of course, the strip fumble were the differences. All this said, I'm not sure that Philly didn't try to copy the Steeler's earlier game plan against the Pats in their SB against the Pats with a few meaningful corrections - with the matter of the Refs, completely out of either team's hands. :frustrated:

Afterthought: if Jesse James would have had an extra pair of feet sprouting from his mid-section, he could have used those tiny feet to run rather than dive into the end zone and very likely the Steelers win that game. Might have all been for not though the way they performed against Jags 3 weeks later.

Simply the Eagles time. Atlanta had 4 chances within the 10 yard line to send the Eagles home. Missed it by inches. Sports really is a game of inches.

They'll win the SB when Tomlin specifically game plans for different opponents. Til then, it will be 3 or 4 teams a season that will have our number and at least 1 playoff team finishing the job.

Problem is, the Eagles annihilated the Steelers last year, so not sure how close they are to either team.

I think Steelers Staff needs to looks at the team speed on defense. Patriots were wide open, but Eagles tackled the catch almost immediately. Eagles secondary plays fast.

They also were able to get pressure with just 4 guys, and they have really good edge rushers. For all the talk that the Steelers OLB drop into coverage you still need an effective edge rusher at all times.

Tomlin preaches next man up, but Eagles actually walked the walk ... they lost their star QB, LT, RB, and ILB for the year.

Offer the officials a larger payoff than the Cheats do.

Nothing, the Eagles win one SB and now the Steelers need to copy them . The Eagles defense made one play and gave up over 600 yards.
