I really like this kid. He just got his Masters Degree at SMU and gave the commencement speech at his graduation. I hope he makes the team as a backup and eventually play along side with Pouncey and DeCastro. Very smart kid.

Right now unless he absolutely blows everyone away and beats out Foster, Legursky or Essex he will be on the PS at best.

I think this post is sort of ironic. Foster and Legursky were our starters last year and they were undrafted. Essex is a 3rd round pick but is behind both undrafted players. As a rookie Essex even started a few games at left tackle. It should just go to show that 7th round pick or not, Beachum has just as good a shot as the three guys you mentioned.

Wow....great draft. We went from one of the worst olines to a potential deep and solid oline.Coach loves competition for positions.

Beachum also had an impact off the field, serving as a student representative to the SMU Board of Trustees and as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He was also on SMU President R. Gerald Turner's Commission on Substance Abuse, the Student Affairs Leadership Council and the SMU Athletic Council.

they may teach him the center and guard spot and with his smarts, may make legs and essex expendable at some point. 52 game starter at LT for SMU. the kids got alot going on for himself. i wouldn't count him out, since they are all learning a new offense. he could backup every spot on the line down the road. he's the same hgt. as colon, and has 3/4" shorter arms then adams.
he was a great grab late in this draft.

Ok, given my lack of in-depth college football knowledge - he sounds great, so why such a low pick?

I read this as well and the first thought that came to mind was that he could be a good mentor for Adams if he struggles with off field issues again. This guy seems to have a solid and level head on his shoulders.

deep guard draft this year. he also will be switching positions in the pro's. he's 6-3, not a typical LT size for the NFL. in a pinch he could if it came down to it. he may become our next essex type player. could fill in at every position down the line on gameday. a 6th man type.

Cheers for the info :hello: .

I was just thinking about the other year when we got AQ Shipley, and people were very high on him, but ultimately the reason he dropped so low in the draft was the reason he couldn't make the pros.

This kid seems a different prospect altogether. Here's hoping...

Bunk Adams with DeCastro. From what I've heard, thats one person who won't put up with any bullcrap from his teammates.
Beachum also has the capability to be a longsnapper. We carry him as long snapper, he also becomes a backup across the line, we can carry one less lineman on the roster. If Chris Rainey makes the squad as a return man, the #6 receiver (slot only), and the #4 running back, we've eliminated another person from the roster. Those two positions can be used to carry other people who will benefit the team, if only on special teams.
