Arrested outside a Southside bar for disorderly conduct. Kicked out of high school basketball game for coming out of the stands and threatening a ref. Passing bad checks at casinos. Mind you he's a 40 year old man, not some 22 yr college dumbass.

You might tolerate thus stuff if he were some linebacking strategic genius. But he's not.

Guess I didn't know about that other stuff. I knew about the altercation outside the bar. Chargers were dropped on that.
Somehow I get the feeling he's going to be our next Defensive coordinator.

Seems like he's pretty involved with some of the decision making during games, or atleast when the show him he's constantly directing traffic.

I know people here don't think much of Tomlin and Stiller management. But if Art II, Colbert and Tomlin sign off on J Peezy as DC, it will be the equivalent of Atilla the Hun taking over the Roman Empire.

Pleeeease tell me you're not. I think he should have already been fired along with Carnell Lake, who I actually thought at one time may be our next DC. They've both failed miserably in their responsibilities to this team and Tomlin is displaying ultra weak leadership in failing to act here.

I'm serious. Again I don't want that to happen. Just get this feeling that Tomlin is setting him up for that. Ever notice he's always within a few feet of Tomlin?

Butler should be allowed to be the defensive coordinator. Tomlin should go back to being the head coach and not the defensive coordinator. He is a lousy defensive coordinator.

Watching the games today, we still need one more stout SOB on the front 7 who is going to get after it.

Maybe we should draft a DT or large D-End edge-rusher and switch to a 4-3?

I don't guess it would be a total shock. I think Tomlin has lost the ability to be objective when it comes to his pal.

I think it is time to dump Big Dan and either draft another real DT/NT type or sign a FA, heck both can't hurt. One name that may come cheap in the FA market is Justin Ellis. He was a stud under the radar guy coming out a few years ago. He has a non stop motor and showed some real push straight back. I don't remember if it was the Shrine game or the Senior bowl but he played big there.

Being out of position and giving up big plays are both huge problems. In fact, being out of position is likely why we give up big plays. Us giving up big plays isn't the problem, it's the symptom of the problem. Our guys are regularly out of position and they regularly take bag angles. That's been happening for years. Shazier was just as guilty as everyone else on the team, but his extreme athleticism allowed him to recover.

Sure, we can accomplish what you say, but will we? If it's that easy to fix for our current coaches, why haven't they yet? What are they waiting for? NE was getting roasted by Jax early in the game, but they adjusted and then shut them down. Why didn't we make adjustments in our game vs Jax? Or last year in our game vs NE? Or many other games? It seems our coaches are arrogant and are going to run their plays no matter what.

Nobody is saying our problems can't be fixed. The Rams went from one of the worst offensive teams to one of the best. Any problem can be fixed. I guess my concern is what have you seen from our current coaching staff that gives you confidence in their ability to make the necessary changes? We've been seeing the same issues for years

Because they did it last year. There were games the defense played very well at times.

The more I'm hearing about last season, the more it looks like Tomlin had his finger on the defense. Apparently, in addition to calling the defense, he was taking over secondary meetings and Butlers meetings.

Most coaches can't handle taking that much onto their plate, that's why you have a DC and position coaches. Tomlin needs to back off. The defense started off good and got progressively worse, would seem to indicate Tomlin had something to do with that drop off.

As for NE, not sure how much it's them making adjustments as it is teams playing scared to close games out. There's a mystique about NE now that players and coaches are letting get in their head. If it's a close game against the Eagles in the 4th qtr, I guarantee NE wins.

It's not gonna change with this staff especially with no accountability and everyone's job secure. They are too stubborn and arrogant. They are all about... this is who we are....this is what we do BS.. Remember Tomlins line when he was hired? He hasn't changed, the only thing that has is we no longer have Pro Bowl caliber players throughout our defense. We are losing the game of attrition he hung his hat on.....

    So, read that.

Am I mistaken or weren't there a lot of people arguing that Tomlin should be an HC and take over if the coordinators weren't getting it done?

Also, the article doesn't say when this started. For all we know, it's been all season. And that means not only is the breakdown in defense on Tomlin, but also the early success.

My concern is this: Why is Tomlin keeping a DC around if he has to do the work? Shouldn't he hire a new DC?

I wonder if Tomlin knew he was getting rid of his OC and didn't want to deal with getting rid of the DC, at the same time. Is it likely that Tomlin thinks he can get Butler in shape based on what he saw this season? There has always been a lot of talk about Tomlin being a defensive guy. Perhaps now that he has the offensive side of the ball together, he is going to put his defensive stamp on the team via Butler as a proxy.

Of interesting note: Ben says the Steelers aren't grown ups, the Patriots are. Well, Ben, there's no "I" in team so be the change you want to see.

Overall assessment: They need to do some soul searching in Pittsburgh. The offense is talented, but lacks tact in front of the media and in contract negotiation and maintenance - this creates the circus effect. The defense needs a bit more talent and a focus on fundamentals.

Whether fair, or not, the next season or two will be defining moments in Tomlin's career as a head coach. How he handles the the current challenges in front of him will likely determine if he will be remembered as a great coach. The Steelers are in a good spot, but they need to be great to attain Lombardi Trophy #7.

Yeah, because we'd have twice as many good guys in the secondary than we have now!

The only time that we should see Joey Porter and DC in the same sentence, it would be from another Disorderly Conduct charge.

Our talent in the secondary isn't the problem IMO, I feel Haden, Burns, Sutton and maybe Allen will be pretty good. I have said this many times before our problem is scheme and MIKE MITCHELL. You can ask for safety help when the safety can't read and react and when he does react he can't get there cause he is too slow. If we are going to play with a S over the top get a ball hawker in here and you will see a change in this defense. This D has talent I have read on here how our D is so bad.....BULL **** it is time people put the blame where it needs to go and that is coaching!!!!! jmo
