Only rules all guys have to have played 2000 or later and if its on the off chance they are 80's/90's who played into the 2000's than only their stats from 2000's are legit
ex: Dermontti Dawson, a Hall of Famer and NFL all-decade member of the 1990s, but his last season came in 2000 and it was plagued by hamstring injuries. I wouldn’t pick him
*** there is an article and I had the same choices as a poster on there so enjoy and participate if willing

this would be more interesting if you made it an all time team and every year could be choosen from.

    QB - Ben
    RB - Bus; Bus Driver
    TE - Heath
    WR - Plax; Brown
    OT - Gandy; Marvel
    OG - Faneca; Hartings
    OC - Pouncey

    DE - Aaron; Kimo
    NT - Big Snack
    OLB - Silverback; Wood
    ILB - Farrior; Timmons
    CB - Swaggin; DeShea
    S - Alexander; Troy

Hard to leave off some names, but this would be my starting base lineup. Yes, I put Kreider in and yes I think Antonio Brown is our #2 WR this decade, the kid is not a fluke. Ward, Holmes and Wallace are definitely on the roster, but this is my starting 22. FS was a tough call between Hope, Clark and Brent Alexander, but I went with the playmaking Alexander to roam the deep half with Troy up making plays in the box. CB was by far the saddest to decide.

Some other names on the roster but not starting:

    Bruener
    Mendy
    Porter
    Simmons
    Keisel
    Kordell
    Sweed :lolol:

Ward not starting??? Come on, GB! He was still great all the way through 2007 or so, and still decent after that. Burress was Sweed + playing time until he went to the Giants. Alexander over Clark and Hope??

I'd like to do an active 45. Do I base it on pure talent or time put in? Pouncey might be better than Hartings, but has only two years. I think I'll do a mix and just mess around. Starters in red.

    QB - Ben, Stewart

RB - Bettis, Kreider, Mendenhall, Parker, Moore

WR - Ward, Wallace, Brown, Holmes, Burress

    TE - Miller, Bruener

OT - Smith, Colon (I know, but the options are thin), Starks swing OT

OG - Faneca, DeCastro (without a snap -- boo yah!)

    C - Pouncey, Hartings swing C/G

DE - Smith, Keisel, von Oelhoffen

    NT - Hampton, Hoke

OLB - Harrison, Woodley, Porter, Gildon

ILB - Farrior, Bell, Timmons, Holmes

CB - Taylor, Townsend, McFadden, Washington (shudder)

    SS - Polamalu, Flowers

    FS - Clark, Hope

    K - Reed

    P - Sepulveda

    LS - Warren

Holy crap are we thin at OT and CB. After Ike and Deshea, I had nothin'. I hate giving anything to Washington, but he did have cover skills, he just had a knack for losing them at the worst possible moments. He can't kill us as the #4. And I'll play 3 safeties before 4 CBs anyway, maybe before 3 CBs.

If not DeCastro, because that's weird, Simmons is next in line.

Bell was so unbelievable while he was healthy, he starts.

These teams really show up how bad we've been at the CB position this decade. I mean, Townsend was good, but not great... maybe, if Snack can put in Decastro, I could put in "next year's first round pick" at CB?

GB - Nice touch with Kreider! I was thinking the same thing. Must be our Badger roots

I really have a hard time not mentioning Jerame Tuman. What a tremendous blocking TE he wasm but unfortunately it is Heath's spot.

    QB - BIg Ben
    RB - Bettis & Kreider
    WR - Ward & Wallace
    TE - Heath
    OT - Marvel & Starks
    OG - Faneaca & Simmons
    C - Hartings
    DE - Aaron & Keisel
    NT - Hampton
    OLB - Porter & Harrison
ILB - Farrior & Kendrell Bell (How big of a beast could he have been without the knee injuries?)
    CB - Ike & Townsend
    S - Troy & Clark
    K - Reed
    P - Sepulveda

I almost didn't even click on the thread for that reason. Why not just do an all decade team? We're 90 years away from doing a legit century team.

Do you mean Bruener? I have no problem with Tuman at all, but Bruener was the beast in the blocking realm. Tuman couldn't compare to him there and was supposed to be a great receiver, but that never really materialized.

Yeah, he had a good well-rounded game at Washington, but his passing stats never materialized in the pros. Did BA happen to be around back then? :D

No I was talking about Tuman. Whereas Bruener could be seen as underwhelming (being a 1st round pick) I thought Tuman did a great job, being that he was a 5th round pick. He was definitely a good blocker. He helped pave the way for our great rushing attack in '04 & '05.

Well, I'm not one to hold onto draft status that long. I think when comparing players head up it shouldn't matter at all. Anyway, I don't think Bruener underwhelmed. He was a decent receiver, and TEs weren't expected or required to be like WRs back then. He was a monstrous blocker. Way better than Tuman in that regard, if memory serves. I remember Tuman being more athletic and having better receiving tools than Bruener, but I don't remember it ever really making a difference.

I think '04 was Tuman's only year as a starter, because Heath started right away in '05. But he did play important roles on a couple major plays that no one really gives him credit for. He was chasing the Colts' Nick Harper in the '05 playoffs on Harper's fumble return, and his presence was the reason Harper was forced to run so close to Ben, who made the tackle. A few weeks later, Tuman made a key block that gave Antwaan Randel El all the room in the world to hit Hines Ward deep.

Really??....A century team for only the first 12 years of this century(really 11 because we havent played this season yet)?..LOL..Lets wait for 2033. Than we can all vote(those of us who are still here) for a true century team.

I don't see the problem some of you guys have. This is a message board. We could make an all century team every year if we wanted, or an all 1982 team, or an all 1995-1997 team, or an all 2016 team. Who cares? If you don't like it, don't watch and don't participate.

When someone says "century" you think 100 years. Not 11 or 12.....If you want to say the best STEELER team of the 2000's....FINE..Just not team of century....Maybe call it .."Team of THIS century."

Depends on how you think of centuries, I guess. Whether you think of it as the most recent 100 years, or split up into hundred year segments. I guess he could have said "...so far." Anyway, the Steelers aren't even 100 years old, so we can't do it any way at all without a bunch of disclaimers. I was just surprised how many people crapped on the idea because of the name instead of taking it for what it was and either contributing or ignoring.

I took it as a joke on the OPs part....

I think se should also do a team of the 19th century - people that would have been the best Pittsburgh Steelers, had they existed then.

Man Jason Gildon has to be up there on the depth chart. He is the most underrated steeler ever in my opinion. Quietly had the best career at OLB out of any Steeler in the 3-4 era.
