instead of the post that allows you to pick from 2000's and up. lets do an all-time team.

    qb terry bradshaw
rb franco harris and john henry johnson
wr john stallworth and hines ward
    te heath miller
ot john kolb and tunch ilkin
og alan faneca and sam davis
    c mike webster

I guess we pick a 3-4 since that is what we play now

de ernie holmes and ernie strautner
    dt joe greene
olb jack ham and james harrison
ilb jack lambert and levon kirkland
cb mel blount and jack butler
s troy polamalu and donnie shell

    kicker gary anderson
    punter craig colquitt
    coach chuck noll

let the debate begin. I am sure i will get blasted for 2 of my picks so let me say. I think johnson was better than jerome and since he was inducted into the hall i have seen footage on jack butler and he was good. I know so was woodson. it is just an opinion

I have to disagree on Johnson and Woodson. TE is a tough one; I have no problem with Heath, but I can see Cunningham in that spot, too. I'd put Mike Merriweather at the OLB spot opposite Ham. And I'd select Andy Russell over Levon. Also, Holmes was a T not an end. Have to go with LC at DE.

Aye, there were a lot of great players on those 80's teams that the dream teams tend to overlook, like Merriweather, and Louis Lipps. And as santee reminds us, the legendary Bubby Brister.

I guess the question is, if they were playing on that dream team, would someone like Lipps out-perform Swann or Ward?

I kinda agree about holmes, but stautner was a dt tackle to I think. in a 3-4 I just took the best three run stoppers. greenwood played in a 4-3 and was a rush end. not that he could not stuff the run too. we have had some get lineman really no bad picks. I thought of russell but I hated to pick the intire 70's d. levon was good and was imo one of the best ml's we have ever had. I like merriweather but he was not a fierce as james. I love the way harrison plays the game.

This is a impossible task!!...You can not pick just one player per position as the best in STEELER history!!

    Center..Webster,Dawson,Pouncy???
    RB..Harris,Johnson,Bettis???
    T....Kolb,Brown,Ilkin???
    WR...Swann,Stallworth,Ward???
    QB...Bradshaw,Ben???
    DL...Green,White,Greenwood, Stautner,Smith......
And thats not even getting into the LBs or DBs........
    IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!

    Agreed, Impossible task, but fun!
The biggest surprise to me, is that no one threw Greg Lloyd`s name, out there yet, at lb.
In the OP`s list, that is the only one that I would definitely disagree with. As much as I liked Kirkland, I think Lloyd was better.
There are definitely a lot of other players over the years, who have been left out, so far, but I am most surprised at that one.

My all-time "Oh yeah, I forgot about that guy" team (post-merger):

QB: Steve Bono (played for the Steelers in 1987, was a replacement player)
RB: Alvin Maxson (a Saints cast-off and decent back, played mostly special teams in 77 and 78); Richard Huntley
WR: Weegie Thompson (love that name, Weegie), Calvin Sweeney (He caught Terry Bradshaw's final TD pass.) Also: Gregg Garrity and Dwight Stone
TE: Preston Gothard (you're probably saying WHO? Exactly. Was the starer for 3 seasons.) Runner-up: Adrien Cooper
OT: Anthony Brown, Justin Strzlyznyzszyk (inside joke)
G: Bruce Van Dyke, Brendon Stai
C: Not sure there is one, but how about long snapper Kendall Gammon?

    NT: Garry Howe
DE: Edmund Nelson, John Goodman (no, not the actor)...also: Nolan Harrison, the former Raider
LBs: Carlos Emmons, Steven Conley, Dennis "Dirt" Winston, Henry Davis (another answer to a trivia question: who did rookie Jack lambert replace?)
DBs: Lupe Sanchez, John Rowser, Delton Hall, Richard Shelton

Also, my list of Steeler Greats who won't sniff the HOF or make an all-time team:

Rocky Bleier (if you don't like Rocky Bleier, as a person, a player, and an inspiration to others, then there's something wrong with you. LOL)
    Carnell Lake
    Ernie Mills
Randy Grossman (caught a TD in SB X, the first and ONLY TD pass caught by a non-WR all season!)
    Dwayne Woodruff
Robin Cole (steady LB for many years)

There are likely others I am forgetting, but this list is a good start.
