I like it. Won't know if it's a good thing until next year. I believe it is though.

I think you'll see a lot more no huddle.

I think the next move should be to make Munchak assistant Head Coach and give him real power to make change. He clearly understands preparation. His units are consistently doing their job with few mistakes. We need more of that .

I'd also like to see us bring in someone who knows how to handle game day. Meaning clock management, getting plays called in an organized and timely manner, and just reduce the chaos that seems to be prevalent on the steelers sidelines every game. Normally this person would be called Head Coach...but we know that's not going to change so we need someone who can do this for our HC.

Could be a blend of Haley and BA. maybe a deep attack that actually runs the ball also.

Wonder if Patriots will hire Haley to be their ball boy or something.

Fichtner has put in his time.

    It's well deserved.

Is it the right move? I can't say. I think it may look good as long as Ben is here.

Randy has looked after the QBs for 8 seasons now? Outside of Ben, who was already great, I'm not sure I see alot of success and development there.

My only concern is choosing him over Munchak. I'm hoping there was at last a conversation with him before a decision was made. Otherwise, I'm guessing this was all about keeping Roethlisberger happy.

He’s gotta have something to work with. I mean, come on, Lolandry Jones?

There was interest in Munch as a HC, he pulled himself out for family reasons. He'll likely be in the running again next year.

Next season will probably be his last year here. Could be nothing more then not wanting to go through another OC change again.

Neither he nor Ficht have any OC experience, so its not like they left a more qualified candidate on the table. Fichtners rapport with Ben and the likelihood that he is a more stable pick, probably won him the job.

Based solely on the personnel moves made in the last few days I don't expect any big shake ups maybe some stylistic stuff from a game planning standpoint but anyone hoping for a change to hybrid 4-3 with some fire zone 34 thrown in I think it's wishful thinking same with offensive philosophy changes. If you are shaking things up you don't extend Grimble and give McGee a futures contract as well as all the lber and DL you have on the practice squad.

fichtner was a college OC and he was our WR coach before becoming the qb coach. munch staying is also a good thing. now to find a WR coach.

I've stated my hesitations with Fichtner before so I'm not going into that again here. But this was definitely to appease Ben and you really cannot argue with the hire. You're not going to change the race track on the last lap.

Put up some good numbers as OC at Memphis running the spread in the early 2000s. Were defenses new to seeing the spread back then and that led to inflated numbers?? Just throwing that out there. Spread offense has been around for a long time but really took off in its current form around that 2005/2006 time frame imo.

Anyway, I hope he changes some of the situational play calling as I'm sure he will since no two OCs call it the same.

Congrats to him though, I'm anxious to see next year's version of the offense..

Isn't John Mitchell already the 'assistant head coach'?
Between Tomlin, Haley and Munchak they had 3 guys with head coach experience and still couldn't get the team prepared, manage the clock, have a QB sneak audible, ect. It really baffles me.
At least one of them is gone and it doesn't look like they're bringing another.
I think too many cooks are spoiling the soup.

i don't think a lot will change in terminology which is a good thing. the core of the offense shouldn't change much. situational football may change some under RF.

Is this real? You mean we may stop all the screen passes and field goals in the red zone?

Not surprised Fichtner got the job, Ben doesn't want to start over in a whole new offense.
