Just saw this come up on the ESPN AFC North blog

    http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_ ... lly-healed

Says Pouncey is 100% after his off-season surgery and that Adams says he's going to be exclusively at left tackle and that means Gilbert would stay on the right side. What does this mean for Colon? And with Decastro playing next to a 100% Pouncey the middle of our line is looking pretty solid. This insider article it also references says we're one of the top 3 most improved lines post draft, along with the Bills and the Colts. Thoughts?

Wow,the Mike Adams thing really surprises me. I figured they would give Gilbert a chance without Adams breathing down his neck first.

They probably see what a lot of analysts have noticed, that Gilbert doesn't appear to have the foot speed required to play left tackle. Besides, Adams is a true LT, and Ross Tucker said just the other day that he has top 15 talent at that position. I don't see Gilbert having top 15 talent at LT. RT perhaps, but not LT.

There is too much being read into this with regard to Adams. What was said was Adams would start practicing at LT and DeCastro would start practicing at RG because that was where they played in college and they don't want to give them too much now. By the time we hit mid camp, both will have seen time on the other side of the ball. Then, we will find out what the best combination is for opening day. For now, Gilbert is ahead of Adams at LT. I would not expect Adams to start opening day. DeCastro I do. I'm just not a big fan at putting a rookie, day one, at LT when you have a $100MM quarterback. One bad play can cost you a season.

I think it is for the best. Why make Gilbert jump around to a bunch of different positions...

Colon has probably eaten his way into a guard spot by now anyways. He was looking bigger even last year before he got hurt.

Yeah the way I saw it was the Adams is a left tackle only and is to back up Gilbert. If he somehow beats out Gilbert in Camp then he start at the left side moving Gilbert to right. I think by week 8 Gilbert goes back to the right side and Adams steps in at left tackle.

If Mike Adams is the best LT that's who starts. A bad vet at LT can get your QB killed as easily as a rookie. Great news on Pouncey.

LT will play itself out in camp hopefully. The best news of all of this is really that Pouncey is back to form. I can't wait to see what he's like when he's healthy and on a line that have players somewhere near his calibre.

I agree that Adams hasn't earned anything yet. He will have to beat out Gilbert if he wants the starting LT gig. I'm still not convinced that Adams will be starting by day 1. I hope I am wrong, because I think he does have more LT skills than Gilbert, but he has a long way to go before claiming anything. Let James take a crack at him in training camp.

Doesn't everyone know how to block Harrison by now?!? Grab that jersey, hold on for dear life, then get a pat on the back from the ref.

I am not convinced with either one Gilbert or Adams. They both
better show what they got. Very, very skeptacle about both. Lets see how it plays out.
I hope I am terribly wrong about both of these players.

Mike Adams looks crazy athletic for a big man. I definitely want to see him start out at LT.

My only concern with him is he lacks power and is more of a finesse blocker, just doing enough to move his opponent out of the way. He probably won't be able to start this year, he may need a year to bulk up.

if starks is healthy they would sign him to start at lt and cut scott , gilbert and colon will battle for the right spot , or one of them could try at lg , i think they will keep decastro at rg for the first year at least

the biggest question right now is definetly where Adams would start if he was to make the roster @ LT is the definet everyone wants but is it possible the make him interior Back Up just to learn chemistry of playing on an NFL line ? Decastro will prob be RG for his first season unless he really shows some kinda crazyness in OTA's and camp . IMO

there was the predraft talk of decastro learning the center spot. they said he was terrible with the shotgun snaps at his pro day though. i really doubt adams even tries guard. his spot is LT and if they want another spot for him it may be trying RT.

Adams is to tall to play guard IMO. I could be wrong, but that is how I feel about it. He is a L or R Tackle.

    Best case scenario IMO is:
    LT- Mike Adams
    LG- Willie Colon
    C- Maurkice Pouncey
    RG- David DeCastro
    RT- Marcus Gilbert
Mike Adams "weakness" is blocking in the power run game. Putting Colon next to him (I believe his best asset is drive blocking) and DeCastro at RG to pull to his side could greatly offset this "weakness". I'd try to sign Max as B/U swing tackle if possible and keep Ramon Foster on the roster as well.

why on earth do people want max starks back? max will sit on the bench and be 400lbs. he's not that good. jeeeeezzzzz! let's be done with that experiment. if adams went down then gilbert could move to LT. beachum and essex and turner can also slide into the LT spot if we got to our 3rd or 4th LT. max starks? pleazzzzzzzz no more. why take the place of fresh young talent we have finally aquired on the line? do we already miss the days of 45 sacks a game? we might as well start max and colon at the tackles again.

Hey mac always appreciate your opinions on the O-line..
My thinking on Starks is that we know what we get at swing tackle. From all accounts he's well liked and would likely be a positive influence on Adams. I don't see alot of downside if he's willing to play for a reasonable amount and mentor this young O-line. Just my thoughts.
