The Haden and Shazier injuries really derailed this defensive momentum. Tomlin still can’t coach up defensive players. And him and his buddy Colbert can’t draft on defense either.

You do realize all great coaches start out as nobodies? While I can't name names the next great is out there somewhere.

Thank you. Let's not forget Colbert was a member of the pitiful Detroit Lions front office.

I agree. But I would also like to point out that the Steelers swept the division and also won the division two years in a row.

You don’t fire coaches that consistently get you to the playoffs with the chance to win a Super Bowl.

They are a few guys away on defense from getting there. Unfortunately we have to pray it happens next year because Ben isn’t exactly committing for 5 years.

The Pats lost more division games this year than the Steelers did - Miami plays them tough every year, especially down there. Plus the Steelers get their shot to beat NE year after year when they both finish first and they don't do it.

The difference is - in general the Pats don't give away games like the Steelers did to the Bears and as a result - the Pats are always top 2 and usually get HFA.

Why not - 3 of the 4 teams left have coaches that have been brought in recently?

All I’m saying is don’t expect Tomlin to get fired.

    Haley maybe.

Tomlin won't be fired. But it's fun to pretend.

And don't expect the Steelers to win a SB either.

Tomlin is not getting fired unfortunately. Not this year yet. Butler and all the defensive coaches should be fired. Haley? Depends on what Ben says.

This excuse that they are a few guys away needs to stop. It's denying reality. This team is fundamentally broken down to its identity which is a reflection of the coaching staff.

No that doesn't usually happen but who says we can't trade him to another team. I'm sure some other franchise would be happy just making the playoffs year after year with a lot of one and dones.

Fire anyone brought up by coach dick on defense . The offense was great aside from a few plays . Butler is old and clueless. Linebackers suck. The rest of the defense is salvageable and Ben and the offense looked awesome today esp considering the defense they played

I've said this before many times Mike Tomlin is the Steelers Dan Bylsma.

I'm all for bringing in a DC from the outside with a new vision, no more of this promoting from within.

What? Two years ago they were ALOT of defensive players away.

Do you honestly think you can build an entire defense in an off season? If you want to blame anybody it should be the Rooney’s for not shelling out cash to rebuild the defense faster.

All I know is year after year Belicheck turns a team of scrubs into a mostly respectable defensive unit. Those players are nothing special. Granted the offense is the winner of that team but you get what I mean.

Ben has 2 years left, also the Patriots went 10 years between winning Super Bowls.

We certainly have very high standards and I like that. Can you imagine being a fan of just about any other team other then the Cheatriots. Some teams have one good year then regress when a tougher schedule the following year catches up to them. We have been very successful over the past 15 years and should feel good about it.

Getting manhandled like today hurts because so many of us remember those steel curtain days, and today the defense was terrible. Heyward double teamed Tuitt looks like he is hurt and Hargrave had no burst maybe his back was still bothering him.

Still I don't think we are as far away as some would think. We only went to Bryant maybe 3 times so if we are not going to use him trade him for a safety or ILB . Draft will need to be defense minded but I think we need a change in the secondary coach. Lake hasn't coached these guys up at all, still signs of confusion and why are they 10 or 12 yds off the LOS on 3rd and 5.

I think we need to trade for a safety for sure!

I like that idea of trading Bryant for a safety or LB.

Three of the key Jaguar defensive players (Church, Byuoe (sp?) and Campbell) were all brought in as free agents this this year. That helped them get to the point where they were dominate after going 3-13 the previous year. So, yes. I think aggressive free agency can lead to rebuilding a defense.

They have put some really good weapons around him but haven’t surrounded him with a defense in years. When Ben won his two rings and went to three Super Bowls overall we had a very good defense. I just don’t see us somehow getting a legit defense in the offseason. So I’ll agree what could of been. Tomlin’s a very personable guy but he isn’t a very good coach. I don’t know what Butler has been doing since he’s been there?
