The Bengals are getting alot of love from the media because they had a good draft one of the ESPN analysts already picked them to win the the division. I'm not buying the hype just yet they still have to prove they can beat the Steelers and Ravens 0-4 last season with a young qb. Tim Hasselbeck of ESPN predicted the Steelers wouldn't make the playoffs because of the defense and the lack of turnovers they created.

If Dalton improves, the Bengals will be a threat to win the division.

LOL. They will be improved, but so will most of the North.

They did have a good draft, but it takes time to have the full effect. Don't forget about their locker room - it has derailed more than a few talented players.

Absolutely no surprise that Hassleboy says what he says about the Steeler's. I'd be more surprised if he said anything different.

My initial reaction to the ignorance and bias of the analysts is to get pissed, but then I remember this is the norm for us. Every year we get written off for whatever reason and every year we are in a position to potentially take it all. I haven't been this excited about an upcoming season in a long time!

The Bengals pattern is to get decent players and have potential, but then to self-implode. They've been doing it for many years, and I don't see it changing now. Yes, they do have some great potential, and it is possible that as a team they'll get it together, but at this point I don't see them breaking that pattern of falling apart in spite of good talent.

The Bengals are getting better, but they are still a bad organization that is badly led. Let the "experts" pick them to win all they want- preseason picks mean absolutely zero, and I guarantee that there are a bunches of people on this board alone who know football better than Tim Hasselbeck.

Of course they 'could'. Anything can happen. Every year there are surprises and teams that either do much better or worse than expected. And a team cannot be judged on its roster sheet including what they draft.

Agreed. The Bengals could definitely win the division, it wouldn't shock me if it happened. We can't expect to win every year, nor will the Ravens win every year that we don't. The Bengals will one day win the division again, I just hope it's not this upcoming season.

How'd that work out last year? Granted they took a dump in the first game, but they were 12-4.

I am afraid with the boat loads of talent they have aquired thru out the many years
of drafting so high, that they have as many quality players as anybody in the AFC north.
Along with Dalton who I personally think is a winner and will get better. We have our hands full
and better be on top of our game thruout the organization. Yes Mike Brown is a Idiot,
but somehow they will rise up from this and just play ball. When you have the Jimmy's and the Joes
your chances get a whole lot better. Don't forget where Marvin Lewis came from, he knows
how the game should be played.

No to your question. The bungals have gotten better but so have the steelers and ravens and both teams swept them last season.Plus after injuries, arrest, and poor leadership start to occur then they will be the same ol BUNGALS!

Last year the Bengals had the 4th easiest schedule among the 32 teams. This season their schedule and the Steelers are both ranked as the 14th toughest for this coming season. They do have a lot of talent with Red Dalton and AJ Green but I doubt that they will finish with anything more than a 9-7 record.

lol, what a clown that guy is. What he meant to say is that "I HOPE the Steelers don't make the playoffs this year", everyone knows his true feelings anyway. The division will still come down to the Steelers and Ravens. The bungles will be the bungles until they prove they are ready to take the next step. Lets see how they do this year, a few years ago they swept through the division and then completed imploded the following season before bouncing back with Dalton. 3rd place for them this season.

They say this for the Vegas odds, this is how they cash in .. In the end Pitts will bury them like they always do. Did they already forget the injured Pitt team just crushed them 35-7 ?

You should change your title to "The Bengals could they be better than the Steelers and Ravens (If half of them weren't going to be in prison)"

I predict a fast start and a terrible finish for the Bengals. They need to fire Marvin Lewis and promote Zimmer.

I keep telling people here in Cincinnati they need to chill out.

In 2005 the Bungles beat us in a big game and Chad Johnson said after the game ""It used to be Pittsburgh's time, now it's Cincinnati's time, and it'll probably be that way for a while. They're like black and white TV, we're like color TV." -Chad Johnson, Dec. 4, 2005"

The thought at the time was that it may be a "changing of the guard" in the AFC North... Well look where we are 6 years later.

My prediction - sophomore jinx for both Green and Dalton. Bengirls finish just ahead of the Clowns in 3rd place. Don't forget - Dalton played his best ball in the 1st half last year. Then, teams got more film on him and he didn't do nearly as well. This year, they'll have analyzed him from the beginning and I really don't think he's that good.

If you follow the NFL closely enough, you'll find that teams that are big "surprises" one year, tend to fall back the next. Just a recent history:

2000 Colts and Saints shock everyone by both going 10-6 and making the playoffs. Saints QB Aaron Brooks is hailed as the next big thing. 2001: Colts 6-10, Saints 7-9.

2001: Patriots win it all and shock the world. 2002: 9-7 and out of the playoffs.

2002: Browns finish 9-7 and sneak into the playoffs, nearly knocking off the Steelers. 2003: 5-11.

2003: Panthers come out of nowhere and go to the Super Bowl with some guy named Delhomme as QB. 2004: 6-10, out of the playoffs.

2005: Bengals shock everyone and take the AFC North. 2006: Bengals 8-8 (albeit with Palmer returning from knee surgery).

2006: Bears and Saints come out of nowhere, both winning their divisions and squaring off in the NFC title game. 2007: both finish 7-9.

2007: Browns challenge Steelers in AFC North, with wonder QB Derek Anderson*. 2008: Browns go 4-12 and all the talk about Anderson being the best QB in the division quickly fades.

2008: Miami and Carolina are surprising division winners. 2009: Miami goes 7-9, Carolina 8-8, both out of the playoffs.

2009: Bengals again come out of nowhere to win the AFC North. 2010: 4-12.

2010: Chiefs win the AFC West! 2011: Chiefs go 7-9, miss the playoffs.

*-My favorite story in all of this. The OP mentions the media salivating over the Bengals. Well, they did the same thing with Anderson and the Browns after 2007. I remember it distinctly. I still played FF back then, and one of the guys took Derek Anderson as the 4th or 5th QB in the draft, ahead of Ben, even Palmer. Anderson was being touted as the next great QB, a guy who was only going to get better. Where is he now?
