Just saw this PG+ article a little bit ago- stlrs.co/KkAH6D where Ed Bouchette is saying that Barron "Batch isn’t yet ready to practice after having ACL surgery in the middle of August. So, nearly nine months later, he apparently has not been cleared to go."

Batch is quite vocal on twitter and is responding to questions about it. Here are some of his replies:

Seems like Ed will be printing a retraction soon, no?

Dude, you haven't played a down in the NFL...you're a rookie, I don't care when you were drafted. Get on the field bro.

I stopped following him because he's seems like a pretty entitled person. People have asked him how his rehab is going and he makes annoyed remarks at how he's addressed it so many times.

The fact that we have Redman, Dwyer, Rainey, Clay, and Batch at RB and after Redman it's wide open... and Batch has no interest in getting in and impressing worries me. You're a 7th round pick from last season, that not only has to prove yourself because you've done nothing, but prove that you're back from the injury...

If you can run, you should be at the minicamp.

Oh jeeez...so what if he's not out there in a voluntary camp...maybe he's got something else going on...who cares...a lot of players over the years skip these non-mandatory camps...its not a big deal. I wouldnt wanna go to anything I didnt have to either...especially if i'm coming off a serious injury...I'd want to take all the time i could to make sure i'm ready and have less chances of re-injuring it.

We shall see how he fits in this year with our plans. Too many other options at his position, and even his style isn't unique on this year's roster.

If he is healthy, he should be there, period.

I totally disaagree. A 7th rd pick who has done nothing on the team but collect checks for a year. Now the team has drafted another RB higher than he was drafted and drafted two top of the Line OL and seems committed to reestablishing the Run and has a NEW OC in Haley and a New Playbook.

If he has the heart and desire he should be there, in meetings, getting into the playbook, working out and conditioning with/For the team officials even if he doesn't want to run and cut hard right now.

He'll be lucky to make our 53, unless he has a dynamic Training camp & pre-season and yes, last year he did wow with his backs-on-backers drill but still you must produce, not just wow in camp.

I'd be worried about staying healthy if I was an established vet. NFL rosters are small and it's unfortunate if you get hurt but it's not an excuse. Batch will need a VERY good off season to make the team over Rainey, Dwyer, and/or Clay. If he was hungry, he'd be there.

    BATCH SKIPS VOLUNTARY CAMP

    or

BATCH TEARS ACL AT VOLUNTARY CAMP

I've got no problem with it....he might not have a snap in a real game under his belt...but he does have a camp under his wing.

This is it in a nutshell. Dude is coming off serious injury, which is the most likely reason for his no-show, given how much he was getting praised only a few months ago for determination and good attitude.

Please let's not go down the Wallace road of whether this shows him to be a proper Steeler or whatever.

Fact: He is not a rookie by the rules of the league.

Fact: He is not required to go to "rookie" mini-camp

Fact: He was disputing the article that said he wasn't cleared to go.

Speculation: Self indulgent ass who should have his entitled butt in rookie mini-camp even though he showed up early last year and worked his ass off in camp only to get hurt and have to sit out for a year.

Yes, he's coming off a major injury, but this guy is a late round pick, meaning not only is he not guaranteed a spot on the team, but he probably won't get one unless he really impresses the right people. He needs to be on the field to get himself noticed. I don't care if he's a rookie or not, if he wants to have a long career in the NFL, he should be on the field getting noticed. What he did last year doesn't matter. Randy Moss' career all but ended in a matter of weeks and he is a HOF player. Batch can't rely on what he did last year and think people will still care about that. If he wants to start in this league, he should have been out there.

Even if he just showed up and only participated in drills he was comfortable with and took mental reps with the rest, I think the coaching staff (and us!) would have taken notice of his commitment to the team. Instead he comes off as flippant, arrogant and entitled. He and all the 2011 rookies should have tried to show up since none of them had this opportunity last year. They even got play books.

But, maybe the "vets" aren't allowed to participate, so that the rookies and staff can work together with out watering down or absorbing this time together.

He still came off douchy though and I hope he checks that stuff soon. I think he gets bounced by Rainey.

I think Mendy starts the season on the PUP list.

Redman, Dwyer, and Rainey make the team. Maybe John Clay too, I think Clay end up on PS.

So now it's baron batch that the angry lynch mob wants out of town.
I'm beginning to think that'd if a news story told you that a steeler didn't like the same food as you, you'd want him off the team. I just imagine you people talking like the hulk......seems fitting.

    Me not like his attitude.
Me not want him on my team
Me not understand his thinking........hulk smash.

I don't want him out of town nor do I dislike him suddenly (I never liked or disliked him to begin with), I just think it would be to his benefit to get out there and get noticed. Even if he didn't practice hard, just getting out there shows a mental toughness after coming back from a big injury. Coaches don't like injury concerns and often a player being an injury concern will drop him down a draft board, but what coaches do like is how well a player comes back from a big injury as it shows toughness, both physical and mental.

I just think he should be out there for his own benefit.

He can't go to mini camp anyway get off his back because he was on injured reserve last year. Batch needs a attitude adjustment that's why I had to unfollow him on twitter.

Twisting what people say much. I think he doesn't make the team because even with Mendy out this is still a decent group and I don't know what sets him apart other than he injury and loss of time. We all know what kind of RB Redman has been thus far, Rainy is that speed change of pace guy (we hope) and special teams specialist (we hope) and Dwyer, Clay and Batch are left to find their playing identities. Batch got injured and they don't know his other than practice.

What a difference a few months makes. Batch was being hailed as the guy to take memo's spot and a guy with great work ethic and hungry and now he seems to be kicked to the curb and hasn't even played in a real game yet. Time to bring it BB!
