Is this defense good enough to win it all?

Do you think this defense is good enough to win a 7th Lombardi, and why? Do you have stats to back up your case?

I don’t think the case needs to be made. Don’t need stats to prove it either. We have 3 games to win it all, and they just need to play good enough to win it all. If the offense puts up 30+ a game... then yeah, this defense is good enough to win it all. If we’re scoring 13 points... probably not.

There’s no reason why they can’t be good enough. They’ve looked good enough at certain points of the season. They just need to put it together when it matters.

The key to this defense's success is getting to the quarterback. Our secondary is the weakest link on defense so you have to get to quarterbacks early and often to minimize quality passes and hinder the quarterback from making all his progressions.

Therefore if we are going to be good enough to win it all Heyward, Tuitt, Watt, and Dupree need to bring it for 3 games. Haden's return definitely boosts or secondary, but if Sutton, Burns, and Hilton can elevate their game that would be gravy.

Gotta stay in a true man. Still not great but Burns is not good in zone. I hope they keep going with Haden shadowing the other teams best man. That still doesn’t help with Gronk. Gotta double him but with who?

No because we give up too many big plays & can't get off the field on 3rd downs. That's why we need our offense to score a lot...

Still don't think we can beat that team up north but I remember the 5th SB was won with what we and the media called a terrible offensive line.

Our third-down defense is actually a top unit in the league. I know It doesn’t seem that way, but the defense is a top 10 as well. Big plays are the only real knock on the unit.

I have felt all season our offense has to carry this team. Right up to the Jags game it wasn't very good, but since it has been better every week. This is the key to this SB run, not the D imo.

This D is loaded with talent but for some reasons we are a bend don't break kind of team. We also give up the big play, my opinion on this comes a lot from Mitchell not being very mobile. With that said if we play more man we are such a better team. We can get to the QB and we have talent in the back end but we need more out of the S spot. So my answer is yeah this D is good enough, but the key is our O has to score 35+ and put the pressure on the other O making them one dimensional. jmo

I can’t remember where the defense ranked in the Packers SB but I’m guessing much higher than this one; and they weren’t good enough to win.

This year it’s all on the offense.

Arguably, it was the offense that wasn't good enough to win on the day against the Packers. Ugh, that game still makes me sick just thinking about it.

Not without mistake free football by the offense.

A very good Offense beats this current Steeler D.

Atlanta, New Orleans, Philadelphia with Wentz, New England.

Atlanta and New Orleans are the really explosive ones.

Idk if Mitchell is solely to blame. There seems to be some breakdowns in coverage from time to time in the secondary (Burns Davis and Mitchell all to blame for some of these) and sometimes some shady tackling leads to big plays. Every team has a weakness.

A good rangy FS and a replacement for the hole left by Shazier’s injury are definitely the biggest needs moving forward. I like where our defense stands otherwise.

It’s going to be very important for us to stop the run against Jax. We also need to contain the pocket so Blake freaking Bortles doesnt run for 90 yards on us like he did Buffalo. If we do, they can’t beat us. Get an early lead and make Bortles best is with his arm. He won’t.

we have to stop the run this week. we have to score sevens. ben needs to put the ball in the right places against this team. he can't lock in on AB. if he spreads it around to juju, bryant, bell, mcdonald and AB, we win easily. they don't have the firepower to keep up.

If the Steelers make it to the Super Bowl... anybody but the Saints. Steelers can beat any other remaining NFC team, IMO.

imagine a team that can not only run the ball, but has a HOF qb to play action as well. I also guarantee you when the run is working for them, they won't stop like the other teams we faced did. lol

    7th in ppg
5th in ypg(10 rypg, 5 passpg) rushing is actually worse, 27th in yards per attempt.
    1st sacks
    13th in takeaways
    28th in red zone td's allowed. (1. chargers 2. jax 3. minny 4. pats 5. falcons)

minny is the best overall defense.
    1st ppg
1st ypg (2nd in rush, 2nd in pass) 5th in rushing yards attempt
    3rd in red zone defense
    17th in sacks lol

I have confidence in the secondary now that Haden is back. We have gotten great pressure on opposing quarterbacks all season. If we can just find a way to not get gashed by the run, then yes this defense is good enough.

Nobody is solely to blame but I will say MM is as big as anyone, including Spence and if you ask some around here that says a lot. Go back and look at some of the plays that look like blown coverage. A lot of them are expecting help over top and MM just can't get there. Prime example the play vs the Clowns where Gordon was just short of a td. MM was almost standing still, why play a S deep if he can't read and react. This is one of our biggest problems, our corners are good enough to cover but we need a S who can play the deep spot. jmo

    Maybe the Titans can?

Titans possess some elements that could make this a game. Derrick Morgan, Brian Orakpo, Jurrell Casey and Erik Walden are largely unheralded, yet form a quartet of pass rushers that could generate the type of pocket pressure that's key to beating Brady. RB Derrick Henry and a mauling offensive line could crack a Patriots defense that allowed more yards than all but three teams in 2017. And mobile quarterbacks like Alex Smith and Cam Newton were hugely responsible for two of New England's three losses this season. Marcus Mariota fits that mold, too, but he and the Titans can't afford to fall into a deficit that forces them to stray from a balanced approach.

I would not worry about Steelers defense..I'll worry about fumbling the ball on the goal line or BB throwing a huge INT when it matters the most..

If Roger goodell wants Steelers to win the sb and BB retires into the Sunset, then Steelers will win the sb...just like old man manning defeated that #1 defense of CAR with his noodle arm....
