i guess I'm not surprised no one has posted about Landry's performance.

I don't get why he is disliked.

I for one like the guy and think we're fortunate to have him.

For the same reason some people used to hate Ben roethlisberger. I was on a board where a few posters would rail about how awful Ben was for the first 1.5 seasons or so. After winning the Super Bowl most them shut up and tried to pretend it never happened.

What team were they watching? Ben's first year was one of the best rookie seasons, if not the best, I've ever seen.

Josh Dobbs couldn't look good laying on a bed made out of $100 bills and surrounded by lingerie models.

    Huh?

Roethlisberger went 15-1 his rookies season and 11-5 his second season while shining like a diamond. 2005 he put the whole team on his back throughout the playoffs and while not having the best Superbowl performance he got the W. I blame that on jitters as it was his first SB appearance in only his second season.

Maybe the old message board was malfunctioning for you at the time as it often did but I don't know who could complain about those first 2 seasons.

Landry Jones has shown most of us so far that he is a complete roller coaster. He can make some great passes and decisions and then throw a pick where we all scratch our heads. I'm not sure what the next QB chapter involves but with the experience Landry has he should be able to compete and ultimately take over the position if he proves himself in training camp but I don't think that we are looking at anymore than a 7-9 or 8-8 career starting NFL QB.

I think Landry Jones can be Neil O'Donnell, but he will never be Ben. O'Donnell was an above average quarterback who, with the right pieces in place, was able to take the Steelers to the Super Bowl. He was a good distributor of the football and had a good football IQ. The Steelers can win with LJ if they have a good running game and a strong defense, but he'll never be a top-flite, elite quarterback. I agree with the OP, I don't get all of the dislike for Landry on this board. He was a 4th round pick and has met or exceeded expectations for a 4th rounder. If you put him with the first team offense instead of the JV, he'll be a contributor to winning football.

heck ben throws picks too where we all scratch our heads. sometimes multiple picks in a game are that way. it will be interesting with all the weapons at hand for whomever is the next one. most qb's should flourish with the offensive players we have on board.

It was 28-24 LJ threw for 239 yards. Juju made 144 of them...

Juju scored on his 96 yard retirn..

LJ fumbled 1 and threw an INT..

We played the Browns.. Any other team wins this game 31-21.

Juju was the golden boy... LJ is a stiff.

The season records are right, but obviously Ben didn’t start all season in 2004.

I don’t really understand how people claim a WR “made” the yards and the QB didn’t. Unless it was a horrific throw a la Franco and the immaculate reception, if the QB gets the ball to a playmaker then they’ve done their job.

Likewise, “if they’d played anyone else...”. If they played someone else, they would have a different game plan. Jones did what he was responsible for doing - holding the fort while Ben is off the field.

To be fair, the offense fell apart in the second half because they couldn't get a decent snap in the shotgun.

Landry Jones with Bell, Brown, Pouncey and DeCastro would probably be O'Donnell-esque. Nowhere near Roethlisberger or Bradshaw... but good enough to win 9-10 games.

Ok JuJu had a 144 yards receiving. How does that speak negative of Jones. That’s saying yeah Ben threw for 500 yards but Brown had 300 of them. Be. Still had 500 yards. Considering with Brown down JuJu is the number 1 target you would expect him to get the most yards.

I think Landry can be a guy who if your starter gets hurt mid-way through a game, he can give you a fighting chance.
If you have a starter down for a game or two, maybe three. He can make them some what winnable perhaps.

But, he will never ever, ever be an every day starter.

Indeed. But those are once in a generation players. Most starters in the NFL today are nowhere near Bradshaw and Riethlisberger in their respective primes.
