According to pwp Jones isn't supposed to be able to do that.

He's a back up QB who only plays a meaningful game once a year against the Browns. He is a back up QB in the NFL. That's what they do. I know JuJu loves him.

He has made slow improvement over the years. He has arrived as a serviceable backup. I think there is a good chance he stays as a career #1 backup. He`s no Charlie Batch, but good enough to keep his spot. Who knows, maybe he will continue making small improvements.

OK I give in DHB stated that LJ is the only QB on the roster that will give him the ball. Because of that I will vote LJ the BU QB of the year .Maybe we should bench Ben and start LJ?

Landry Jones did what he was supposed to do as the back up. He was the winning QB right?! He has knowledge of the system. I feel he would have had a better day if Finney didn't go down.

He has the clowns number :applaud:

Equally important - he looked comfortable with the offense yesterday. Hard to say that about a lot of backups. Heck, Kaziel didn't even look comfortable, and he's been starting for the Browns all season.

For what it’s worth, even with them being the Browns, their defense wasn’t terrible. We weren’t talking about putting up a 100 QBR versus the 28th ranked D. Which tells me, if needed, he may be able to have success against other teams as well.

I thought Landry played well. Over the years I've watched Landry go from a terrible third stringer to an above average backup. He doesn't make me cringe every time he throws the ball the way he used to. Let's just hope we don't hear his name mentioned at all until next pre-season.

I am no fan of LJ but even I said he needed the snaps and he got them and played well. He played without a lot of starters none bigger that Bell, AB and Pouncey and did the job. He even had to struggle with bad snaps towards the end of the game. People can say what they want about them being the Browns but still they are an NFL team(?) and yeah they were 0-15 but look at their games and see how many could have went the other way. They had a lot of close games and they could easily be 7-9 as well as 0-16. Good Job Landry it is nice to know that just in case we have a guy who can run this offense.

Whenever, this guy start believing that he is a bonefide qb...he mess up. He started off surprisingly good, and then tried to give the game away (just like last year's finale) and then the browns being who they are ... loss a potential ...winnable game

I’m guessing someone who isn’t good enough to be a passing QB?

LJ is an average to above average (on a good day) NFL backup. He does what is asked of him, improves incrementally, knows his role and doesn't cause any waves. Consider this; we damn near lost to the 0-0 Cleve Brownies with all our horses in the barn so yeah, AFAIC, LJ did just fine yesterday. Another item to consider is that our offense put up 20 which, even without JuJu's KO return TD, should have been more than plenty enough to beat the Browns and their anemic offense. You want to analyze a portion of the 2017 Pittsburgh Steelers? Look at the defense and their maddening habit of not getting off the field on third and seven plus, giving up huge pass plays to QB's that aren't even on par with LJ, shoddy tackling at times, and countless secondary breakdowns, particularly the play of our safeties. That's what would keep me busy. Not the decent to good play of Landry Jones in a meaningless Pittsburgh Steeler season finale.

Landry Jones has started AND won games for the Steelers. He's not a franchise quarterback but he's a more than adequate backup who can come in when called upon and play above the line. He has a good grasp of the offense, recognizes defenses and can audible effectively as he did on the TD pass to JuJu yesterday. He throws a very catchable pass and typically will hit his receivers in stride. He isn't very mobile and his pocket awareness needs some improvement, but there's no reason LJ can't make a healthy living as a quality backup quarterback in the NFL. Completing 85% of your passes against an NFL defense (no Browns jokes, please) is not an easy thing to do. The continued vitriol for LJ on this board is perplexing to me. It's like he's a first round bust or something. He's a fourth round pick and is what we thought he was! Maybe that's it! People are getting him confused with another guy named Jones who actually was a first round bust.

That's why I suggest, if Ben retires, we load Landry Jones with more weapons. Solidify the defense and build around Jones. Make him the next "Alex Smith" or "Trent Dilfer"
