He just is what he is . He can make some good throws then he will make a stupid 1 . He has very little pocket awareness and he can't protect the ball in the pocket . He has almost zero mobility .

The Steelers will be his 1 and only Team once he is cut from this Team his NFL career will be over .

He did have a good game, but you wont get the haters to give him any credit, hell they wanted Dobbs to start which would have been the dumbest thing tomlin could have done considering LJ needed the reps going into the playoffs, good job Landry....

He’s improved every step of the way. Very good game by LJ with really only one bad throw.

To be fair, he was playing without several key players.

Playing without AB, LB and starting OL. They can boost any QB, LJ included.

I don't agree. He is nothing more than a backup but a lot of teams would welcome a backup with his skills.

Charlie Whitehurst bounced around the NFL for 10 years with much less ability.

I doubt it as times have changed . Teams actually are looking for starter capable bu's or a future prospect who may become starter capable . IMO career bu's at QB are on the decline . Other Teams don't have the weapons that we have either . Our 2nd. unit WR'S are better than most Teams first. Coaches will look at that as well. Not to mention all the time he has had in this system under a good staff and behind a great QB.

I see very little value in a new Team investing in him.I will be shocked if he gets another gig after this one.

If 19 catches that pass I feel like this thread is a lot different this morning.

Couldn’t disagree more. He’s not a starter, but he is a very quality back up. If the Steelers don’t want him (I have absolutely no idea why they wouldn’t), then there will be plenty of teams in the NFL looking for a good back up to a pocket passer.

Outside of his first two years (where he saw no meaningful play anyways), he’s show nothing but what you’d expect from a quality back up in this league

There’s no such thing as a starter capable BU. The only “starter capable BU’s” are first and second round picks that were drafted to be starters who happen to be backups for a year or two.

    1. Brian Hoyer Patriots 2. Matt Moore, Dolphins 3.Colt McCoy, Redskins 4.Mike Glennon, Bears 5.T.J. Yates, Texans 6. Chad Henne, Jaguars 7. Geno Smith, Giants 8. Drew Stanton, Cardinals 9. Chase Daniel, Saints 10. Derek Anderson, Panthers 11. Nick Foles, Eagles 12. Ryan Mallett, Ravens 13. Case Keenum, Vikings 14. Matt Barkley, 49ers 15. Landry Jones, Steelers 16. Austin Davis, Seahawks 17. Matt Cassel, Titans 18. Kellen Clemens, Chargers 19. Matt Schaub, Falcons 20. Kellen Moore, Cowboys 21. Scott Tolzien, Colts

How can you say career back up is dying? 2/3 of the league has career back ups as their QB2. The other 1/3 has someone they drafted within the last 2-3 years (many of whom will become career back ups). Hate to break it to you, but you’re wrong on this one.

Here is the main reason Teams will not want a bu pocket passer . 4 of the 6 AFC playoff Teams have run/pass types of QB'S the 2 Teams that don't are NE and the Steelers. Both of which have QB'S on limited time . 6 out of 6 Teams in the NFC have run/pass types of QB'S .

Not that all these guys are scrambling QB'S or spread QB'S, but they have enough speed or mobility to use the run/pass option playbook when needed. All of those Teams implement that each and every game .

Teams are looking for mobile capable QB'S not statues .The only reason to have a statue is if he is a surgeon with the ball and has good pocket awareness . LJ does not .

Landry has made great strides since his first two years. What he showed me yesterday was he has command of this offense and can make the short, mid, and long throws. Pocket presence is a complaint of just about every up and coming QB. Landry just doesn't have the consistent game reps to hone that yet. While the fumble was bad, it wasn't a game ender. He had to deal with adversity every time the snap bounce off the ground or hit him in the ankles. Still, looking over his stats, it's hard to say anyone could have played any better. He started off 6/9 with an INT and finished 17/18 with a TD.

Keep in mind, he is not Ben. He will never be Ben. Few QBs are.

Are you really trying to sell the idea that Keenum is a run/pass QB just so you can continue to malign Landry Jones?

    What's a run/pass QB?

How are Drew Brees and Matt Ryan a run/pass QB? They seem to me to be a whole lot more similar to Ben and Marsha than to Cam and Wentz.

yes as he had 2 runs over 20 yards. he also scored a TD and he had over 160 yards rushing in 2017. He actually can run if need be . LJ can't even get back to the LOS on a boot .

Not sure if serious? Maybe satire?

    Brady - Statue
    Ben - Pocket passer
    Bortles - Pocket Passer
    A. Smith - Pocket Passer
    Mariota - mobile
    Taylor - mobile (he sucks)

Wentz - Pocket Passer who can be mobile
    Keenum - Pocket Passer
    Goff - Pocket Passer
    Brees - Statue
    Newton - mobile
    Matt Ryan - Statue

There are 3 maybe 4 if you count Wentz as a runner that are mobile qbs in the playoffs. Not 10 like you mentioned. Only 3 that are gameplanned to do any type of damage with their feet. None of the other guys utilize RPO with themselves as a runner. Only running they do are busted plays and scrambling for their lives.

The OC is not afraid to call a QB boot or a zone read play or a designed QB run up the middle . Bress and Ryan have both made big plays this year on these calls. OC'S want this tool in the bag with LJ you can't even run Waggle , Boot passing game , roll the pocket or anything of that sort . A mobile QB doesn't have to be a rushing QB he just needs enough mobility to keep the playbook open..

Nick Foles or Landry Jones? I'll bet the Eagles would trade if they could.

Not true. All of those Teams I mentioned use the PA QB Waggle game. This is a huge part of the run/pass option game . The QB has 2 plays called usually a run 1 way and a Waggle or half roll to pass the other way . LJ is not capable .
Bortles- Waggle game all the time.
    Smith-zone read,waggle,roll outs,
    Wentz-zone read,waggle,roll outs
    Keenum-waggle and some roll outs
    Goff-zone read,waggle,roll outs
    Brees-waggle,roll outs
    Ryan -waggle roll outs

mobility is not just rushing yards. It's the ability to escape pressure, to create time in the pocket, run the Waggle game, use the PA game on roll out passing .

This is false. You act like if LJ took 3 steps in a roll out he’d fall on his face. You can absolutely call roll outs with LJ, he just isn’t running the ball around the end. Neither is Bortles, Smith, Keenum, Brees, Brady, Ben, Ryan or Goff.

We went from 10/12 QB’s being run/pass QB’s to “well he can roll out to his right without injuring himself”

LJ is a back up. Not a playoff caliber starting QB... you’re just grasping at straws in attempt to take a dump on the guy. The reality is that there of tons of teams who would gladly take him as their back up if the Steelers did’t want him. Unfortunately for you, there’s no reason for the Steelers to cut a quality back up loose so he’s probably sticking around for a while.

run/pass is the type of Offense and watching LJ I see nothing that helps me believe he can run it . The Steelers are his best fit I agree on that. I still see little to no value for other Teams as the OC'S will want to keep the playbook open.

If and when he gets cut we will see if he lands a job. I still say he wont.
