i'll be watching jj wilcox today. is he worth keeping around at safety? we need help in this department badly. i wonder why he's been sitting so much. ST's screw ups maybe? can he be any worse than what we have seen so far? can davis move to FS? frankly i think thats a better position for him. thoughts.

Really not a good barometer, Browns and their Qb's. We should have
seen what he could do against top flight competition. This would have been fairer for all involved.
I do agree this coming draft, that the best available FS has to be selected and high in the draft.

He's been sitting a lot because of an undisclosed injury:

    Questionable

(Undisclosed): Wilcox is dealing with an undisclosed injury and his status for Sunday's game against the Browns is unknown. (Updated December 26, 2017)

JJ Wilcox is signed through 2018. I feel when they signed him he did a decent job while Mitchell sat out. I don't understand either why he has been deactivated so much. Can't be any worse then Mitchell.

I like Davis and believe he will only get better.

Golden will stay. Doesn't cost much and can play special teams and be a back up. Knows the system.

The issue is Mitchell. The Steelers in most cases will let the player play out his contract. Check out the cap hit. He needs to go. Going to be 31, has cement shoes and is arguably the weakest link of this Defense. Can't go another season with him.

This upcoming Draft the Free Safety position needs to be a high priority.

You want to rely on Davis’ instincts in deep coverage?

I really liked the Wilcox pickup at the time but he has showed nothing. No, I do not think we should keep him around.

That makes zero sense. We’ve been in position to get home field advantage throughout the playoffs. You put your best players on the field, not hold tryouts.

Some things well, and some things disastrously bad. The bad angles vs. the run and missed tackles are easier to clean up than bad instincts in pass defense. The whole team would benefit by upgrading from Mitchell at free safety (not just Davis), but Davis isn’t that upgrade. His best chance to be a good player is to stay at SS, and clean up the missed tackles and bad angles. Putting him at FS would be a really bad idea.

Maybe getting teamed up with a better FS might help.

But I really think Davis has been really bad this year. Completely embarrassed himself vs Gronk and the Patriots (not our first S to have done that though.)

Davis takes poor angles, has poor instincts and is constantly out of position. Is what I thought he was, a really raw athlete.

Not saying he won't get better, but a tough two years for the young safety.

The majority of david’s Issues are problems with technique. They’re fixable, but it will take a bit. In a perfect world he would have them all sorted by the end of year two, but it’s not a perfect world.

They are all bad, Mitchell, Davis, Golden, Wilcox, worst set of safetys in the league.
