I don't know why it bothers me; I guess I just don't like inaccurate things stated over and over.

Of course, the announcers - once again - stated that "Steeler fans travel well" because there were so many Steeler fans at the Houston game.....

If they were accurate, they'd say, "Steeler fans move well, and remain faithful to being a Steeler fan" or, "Steeler fans LIVE everywhere."

The vast majority of Steeler fans at away games do not travel from western PA to attend away games; they already live near where the away game is being played to start with.

We live in a beach town outside of J-Ville and go to every Steeler game played here. It is true that a huge amount of seats are filled with Steeler fans, but the majority LIVE here. Yes, a few fans here and there do travel from WPA to take in a game, but that is the minority of Steeler fans seen.

If the announcers were accurate, they should say, "Boy, when Steeler fans move away, they remain Steeler fans." Or, "Steeler fans are created all over the country."

The accouncers NEVER get this right. Ever.

It's not so much that the Steelers travel well but the fact that 40 years ago when the steel mills shut down, people in Pittsburgh dispersed all around the country for jobs and they continued to support the team. And then their kids became fans and here we are....

It's all kind of the same, to some degree. We live in PVB but are often in Jax Beach.

I think both are true. The Steelers fan base is spread out, and Steelers fans travel well.

I live in Maryland and we have a pretty huge following down here. Pittsburgh is only four and half hours away from here so you'll see a lot of Steelers fans down here.

Other than C. Batch, which announcers like the Steelers? I think they devoted 10 minutes to the Hopkins catch, something he does about every week.

Live in Colorado (for now) but travel for work, most recently Minnesota. Fans are everywhere, I've been to Steeler bars from Denver to Fort Collins. Saw a girl wearing a coat today in fact. Went to a killer Steeler bar in St Paul, MN this season and it was insane. I'm sure there's a group of fans that travel to games, but I would say more often than not they live within a short driving distance.

I've been to numerous away games. Look at the license plates in the parking lot. Check Hotels near away Stadiums and they're usually all booked solid. Steelers fans do travel well. It's not uncommon for Steeler fans to drive 2, 3 hours or more to attend an away game. I consider that traveling well. Sure a lot of us are transplanted but we also hit the road to see our team.

I don't think Heinz Field season ticket holders hit the road much but I know many 412er's who have come to Cincy for games many times. That's a 5 hour drive. They usually spend the weekend and a bunch of money to boot. One year the news said that the Steelers are in town today and they brought 47 bus loads of fans with them. I went to that game and there were charter buses everywhere.

Went to Indy and saw Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Michigan and PA plates to name a few. Steelers fans do invade other stadiums.

I can tell you this, last time we went to the Georgia Dome to watch the Steelers play the Falcons, the intestate was packed with cars with Pennsylvania plates. We came from Tennessee. When we were walking up to the stadium there were a number of buses from Pennsylvania unloading folks. Wildest thing I ever seen. Looked like they traveled well to me.

LOL, you should see the Steeler fans down here in Maryland. We apparently sell a ton of merchandise down here and have Steeler bars all over the state. It should tell you something that no one down here likes the Redskins or Ravens that much after all.......

I'm going to re-check the temperature in Hades because I sort of agree with OP WattWack on this one. Believe me, when Texas, Arizona, San Diego & Anaheim (in past) LA, & Frisco are 1/4 to 1/3 Steeler fans, 95% of those folks are not driving/flying from the Burgh. There are more dedicated Steeler bars on the West Coast than any other team (well at least before Sunday Ticket). Most are transplants or born again Steeler-ites. :clapping::dancing::thumbs_up::steelflag:

Reason Steeler fans "travel well" is because of the steel mill closings in the 70's. I left the Burgh because of job shortages back then as well as many many others and we all raised our children and grandchildren as Steeler fans.

We are also close to you just outside of PVB, next year the Steeler's play in Jax and Tampa. Just hope it's not in Sept or Oct.

I was thinking the same thing. It’s not the travel from PA but the travel from other states. I’ve gone to games in Chicago, Indy, Phili and Atlanta and Steeler fans had traveled from far and wide. Sometimes it’s easier to get tickets to away games.

Even when the Chokers were in San Diego, there was always as much Steelers paraphernalia around as Charger. I kinda doubt that people were flying in from Pittsburgh to watch games at San Diego/Jack Murphy/Qualcomm stadium

No, but I guarantee that there was a straight line of traffic heading west on Rt. 8 from Phoenix for those games just cause the Steelers were playing. There were probably an equal amount traveling South from San Francisco as well. Those two cities have huge Steeler fan bases.

I also think that many current fans are from the 70's teams. That means people that are 50-70+ years old. This demographic has the most money and the ability to go to games and buy stuff.
