If I remember correctly even Rod Woodson was released. (or was it traded?)

I'm not as surprised as I was when they cut Gregg Lloyd after 10 years and Llyod played another year for the panthers: Lloyd admired Harrison and said this about him:

Anyone who derails a good thread with rape allegations from years ago, or racism, is getting coal in their stocking. And a steel toed kick in the chestnuts. Carry on. :)

Ben slipped and fail in the wrong hole just 1 time and he will never live down tripping over such a tiny tool . Let Big Ben live .Tiny Ben made some poor choices, we all have . Let's move on please.

Bellicheats coahes never work out. Every dubs them the next great coach because of where they come from but it doesn’t happen. Tomlin manages so many egos on this team and for the most part they don’t skip a beat. Think of all the different issues the Steelers were involved in this year yet they just kept winning. Nothing became a distraction. Not many coaches could do that.

When? When did the Steelers clearly have the best players in the league? When were they favorites to win the Super bowl and didn’t. I would say this is the first year in a very long time. This team was held together by bandaids and walkers at one point in time. Honestly some of those years we probably should have had losing seasons.

Things change so much from week to week in the NFL.

Through the years, guys like Lloyd, Porter etc are released a year or two early. James was kept around to mentor Watt to cut the learning curve. Watt was more ready than originally thought with his size. If Watt wasn't ready, James was in camp. They had to have an understanding of the possibility of being released if injuries occur. He was our version of Crash Davis/Bull Durham. He got to come to the ball park everyday and still get paid if Watt wasn't ready. I can't believe Coach T and the organization weren't honest with him about their overall plans. NO WAY the Rooneys and Tomlin would embarrass anyone, much less a Steeler legend.
I believe James' tweet and Instagram about not playing much earlier in the season was to attract attention away from other crap going on at the time in our camp. Let's not talk about Chicago again. I don't really think he was mad. He knew the score. He also knows he can't play a whole season. He knows he can cover well at his age vs the exclusive 5 wide/empty set teams. I see him coaching at some point.

At this point it's week to week. If something happens, I feel he will be back on roster for playoffs for certain situations and certain types of offenses where he could help.

Hopefully these next 2 games nothing tragic happens. Nobody hits anymore except on GameDay. Used to be just QB's who were never touched and were fragile in games. Now it's everybody.

Merry Christmas to all. Please focus on all of our blessings we have received.

This is what I don't get... what exactly has dupree done ? He can't stop the run... teams are running right at him. He's a target. Harrison is 100X better at holding up against blockers and getting to the runner. Bud is not stopping passes... How many pass deflections and stops has he made in the secondary? When we are in pass coverage Bud is rushing the QB. If he's not rushing the QB he's usually pulled off the field in favor of a D-lineman or corner in the dime or nickel defense. Harrison is twice the pass rusher that Bud is now. You could see it with the few opportunities Harrison was given. Sure Bud has more speed... he can cover better if asked to play man coverage. How often was that? Harrison could have been used in situations ... He's so much stronger it's not even funny. When is the last time Bud collapsed the pocket?

The reason people are confused by the whole thing is because Harrison could have helped this team. He didn't need to start...but he could have helped but wasn't given the chance. That really makes me wonder what the hell our coaching staff is doing. It proves that coaches will not always use the best player available. The only argument I've heard is that has some merrit is they want to develop the younger players.. I get that... I just think we could have used him 5-10 plays per game. I can't believe Harrison couldn't have helped us win a game or two. Especially vs NE. No one was hitting Brady and every time they ran the ball it was right at Bud or up the middle for 7 yards.

I totally agree with you. And I said earlier in this thread even if Harrison doesn't play at all, his experience in the post season and Superbowl for the younger guys while we make our run this year is indispensable and worthy of a roster spot.

I see both sides of the argument. But I don’t feel bad for Harrison and I don’t feel the Steelers strung him along this year at all. He cashed more in checks this year for doing so little than I’ll see in my life.

His contract was not renewed when it expired. He became a free agent.

Timmons was a money decision, one I didn't agree with. He was still a quality starter for them, better than what they have gotten from Williams this season.

Harrison admitted that he broke down the door and he admitted to hitting her. She let him off the hook as long as he went into anger management counseling, which he had also tried previously.

Regarding Roethlisberger in Georgia, she was 19 and he got her drunk, then she was locked in a room with him with his guys blocking the door. Maybe it's the father of a daughter in me, but that's not insignificant no matter what you think happened in that room. (I don't think anybody knows what happened in that room. I don't think even Roethlisberger and the girl know exactly because they were both so drunk.)

Where have you seen racism on this thread? I certainly agree there is no place for it here.

Somebody else brought up Roethlisberger and I answered the question. I will happily move on from that part of the discussion.

I think this release had to do with what he was saying to the press, complaining about his playing time and saying he will not be here next year. There could of been some more stuff happening behind the scenes where it came apparent he was becoming a distraction to the rest of the team. I respect what he has done for the Steelers, but I can't say I disagree with the move. I know Bengals and Browns fans on my facebook are wanting him though, and I just think it would be a mistake for them, but whatever, their the Browns and Bengals that's what they do. I think he is still hyped up by the media and casual fans that still think he is as good as he was and I think he was trying to use that hype for his future contract by always complaining to the media, like it was some conspiracy that he wasn't playing because he was so good. Some of you find it disrespectful the way his release went down, but I found him a little disrespectful also and feel he kinda brought it on himself. Just my opinions.

If MT is such a wonderful motivator then why do the Steelers continue to make the below 500 teams and their weak QB's look like contenders?

As for the former coaches not doing well ..i would say they were probbaly going to crappy teams that were in need of a rebuild. The Steelers are contenders he would just have to put his stamp on the team

That's ok when he see's a receiver coming down the sideline , instead of sticking his foot out like Tomlin, he could set up bear traps.

I think its definitely the father in you. Id also hope any father would give their daughter hell for the way she behaved, right after they finished kicking Bens ass that is.

I think it was consensual, a girl following around a guy all night and then had second thoughts when it came down to it. I think at that point Ben may have been a little slow to stop but didnt go beyond that.

He wasn't released or traded; he was a free agent and the team insulted him with their offer, basically low balling him and telling him he was no longer a top CB. He was ticked off.

I'm sure most of us in here have been on a team or company. You really can't achieve maximum success with malcontents on your roster, especially ones who do command respect, which JH surely does. Remember in camp - who was running the LB drills? JH. No coach to be seen, all the LBs were virtually standing at attention as JH showed them the ropes in drills. JH is fueled by anger, which is all well and good when that anger is focused on opponents. Remember on "Hard Knocks" when he was angered by the camera crew? He was shutting doors in their face and flipping them off. So, when his own team became the focus of his anger, it didn't wash. You can't have someone filling up younger players' heads with how much the team s--ks. It's not good. You need everyone towing the company line. That, and his inability to cover outside runs or play coverage, did him in. He was one of my ALL TIME favorites, but I understand why this happened. I remember in the Lloyd/Woodson era, if younger players complained about things, Lloyd would tell them, "We don't talk like that around here. I don't want to ever hear you complaining again." Now THAT is team leadership; James was the opposite end of the spectrum at the point they dumped him.

I agree that if I was that woman's father, I'd be concerned with her behavior as well. The rest, we'll have to agree to disagree. I believe his behavior, and that of his posse, was disgusting. I do go out of my way to put some of that on Roethlisberger's buddies, including Willie Colon. I believe one of them was also an off-duty police officer.
