My Sisters thought I was crazy cause I kept running outside to stand in the rain looking up and taking deep breaths - then they remembered that I live in the frigging desert (channeling my inner Sam Kinnison) and hadn't sniffed a drop of rain for 8 months! The simple pleasures.

I think they need to take the replay rules back to the original plan, challenge if you feel the play was not correct. The whole review of all scores and turnovers is screwing the league up. I understand that the refs make bad mistakes and a reply process is needed, but they’ve taken it too far. The flow of the game is awful, the players score and the next thing is “let’s wait on confirmation”. And with your challenges, you should be able to challenge anything, including personal fouls and holding calls.

Like I told SDOT it's a wasted effort if you're going to cherry pick which games you boycott.

Off-topic (well, on-secondary-topic) ... I moved east from Portland OR. Loved it there, despite the grey skies and five months of "rain". I actually had Lasik to correct my eyes so I wouldn't need glasses for outdoor activities! Not sure what it's like now, but it was beautiful and the people very friendly back in the mid-2000s.

yeah well, then that would be wrong. If I go from watching 5-7 games a week to 1, then that is a substantial reduction on my contribution to the overall TV ratings. If you multiply that by thousands and thousands of other viewers, then it makes an impact. What's wasted effort is doing nothing but bitching on message boards about the NFL and then sitting in front of the TV all day Sunday, Monday, and Thursday.

Boycotting the NFL would be not watching, buying or doing anything NFL.
What you guys are doing is a selfish boycott. Not really giving up anything important to you. If you're not going all in its a wasted effort.
    The MFL knows this.

I don’t know that boycotting must involve any personal sacrifice. I do the “thinking man’s boycott”: I don’t buy NFL merchandise, don’t attend games, and only watch games in an off-the-grid way (i.e., through-the-air signal rather than through a service).

Nonsense and your opinion. Watching a lot of games "was" important to me...now its not. I also don't buy merchandise, pay inflated ticket prices, or purchase the NFL network, and now will not watch televised games. I am boycotting the NFL machine as much as I can, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate and support the Steelers. You seem to have you own ideas on this, so you do what want and the rest of us will do what we want. But I won't be sheep and hide behind the idea that I can't do "anything" at all. That's cowardice and selfishness.

It might irritate you that those of us who aren't watching any NFL anymore besides the Steelers isn't a full boycott, but whether you approve or not, the facts are that viewership is down across the board. My watching 1 game instead of MNF, TNF, and all day Sunday actually does have an impact when a lot of others are doing the same. I'm a Steelers fan first, football fan second.

I grew up in the Mojave, I remember going 13 months one time without a drop of rain! Lived in Phoenix for a couple years and it seemed downright tropical in comparison with the summer monsoons.

The big NFL Money is TV money. As long as your eyeballs are watching the commercials, the networks take that info to advertisers and sell time, this in turn determines The value of TV contracts with the league.

This ain't a boycott, it's a feel good rationalization. Which I will add,you are entitled to. But I don't see how your non-self-denial self denial causes the causes the change you desire. But , if it makes you feel better, carry on.

You proved yourself wrong in your own post. The money absolutely flows from the tv deals, which is driven by viewership numbers. If people are watching dramatically less games, the overall viewership goes down = less money in future contracts/advertisements. In the case of Clive, who you quoted, his off the grid vierwership has no way of being tracked and accounted for, thus he gets to watch without adding to the overall viewership which will also ultimately affect long term contracts. You can say this stuff doesn't work, but Papa John's has already pubicly reported a decline in revenue in large part to the decreased viewership that drove in game orders.

It doesn't really irritate me. All I'm basically saying is that it's not a boycott. It's just some guys not watching some games. Will it affect the NFL , maybe somewhat.
Let me compare it to this. You buy your favorite T-shirts from Haynes. So you decide you're going to boycott them. Then you say I'm not going to buy my underwear and socks from them anymore, but I really like those T-shirts so I'll continue to buy those. You're still supporting them.
If you're going to start not one, but two threads (SDOT) about boycotting and do hashtags about boycotting then do it.
But if you're still going to watch Steelers games then you're not really boycotting and you're still supporting the NFL.
It just makes you look like a big phony.

Say Stot, since you concur with the bone dry climate of the Mojave, what part of my posting did you disagree with? Enjoying the rain? The Sam Kinnison reference to the "desert"? I'm confused.

Probably more likely that any decline in ratings due to a boycott will only result in the NFL thinking people need the game to be more exciting, and changing the rules to something like LBers can only tackle if the game clock is showing an odd number or something.

People don't seem to understand that the Nielsen rating system is an antiquated system that doesn't take into account cord cutters etc.
