When was the last time he made a big play? For 5 million a year the Steelers need more, he never gets there in time to help out the secondary. I want him gone next season, the Steelers need to find a safety who has the range to help in coverage.

Please explain to me WTF he's doing on this play? Why why why did he leave Burns one on one vs Gonk? I saw it. Everyone I was with saw it. Tony Romo saw it. Mitchell didn't. His first move at the snap of the ball is toward the backfield to look for the RB. Should have identified that Burns needed help and rolled to the back corner to help, but instead he's looking to blow up the RB. Completely ran himself out of the play. As useless as a tit on a bull. Steelers played with 10 defenders on that play. He should've stayed on the bench.

Mitchell has pretty much sucked since he got here unless big hits for personal foul penalties are a good thing. Worthless player. I liked the signing too boy was I wrong. He blows.

On that one where he dove for the ball all I could think was, Troy would have caught that on the dead run. Mitchell didn't come within 5ft of it.

On the plus side, it shows he actually may be aware that he's allowed to catch the ball. I wasn't sure if he knew that or not based on many of his other plays.

There was a post a week or so ago about Ben being "washed up" - I believe Mitchell's name should have been the topic instead. He's seriously lost a few steps, and the only thing he's really good for is laying a good lick on a WR - out of bounds. We need help there.

Late to the ball, bad reads, he is either too slow or takes bad angles, offers little help to Burns.

Most games he is the weakest defender we have.

Mitchell clearly needs to be gone after this season. He was horrible Sunday. Time and again, he was out of position and failed to give the help needed on Gronkowski.

Bleedn was right about the ball Mitchell dove for. A good safety gets to that one. The Steelers had three great opportunities to intercept Brady Sunday and only got one of them because their safeties aren't good enough.

DHB has special teams value so I'd replace him with McCullers.

I'm not sure there is a worse Safety in the league, maybe Golden is the only one I can think about.

Agree with those who say Safety is a priority for the '18 draft. I've been saying this for a while.

Steelers are gonna have a lot of holes to fill on the D side... if Shazier can't make it back.

I have hope that our defense carries us next year.

healthy tuitt, grave, heyward, shaz, watt year 2, bud, vince, haden, burns, Hilton, Sutton, maybe allen? and drafted safety with davis.

Mitchell brings the hammer, intimidating factor ...

But that's it, at times late, no factor in coverage or offers little hope of splash plays... INTs...

Davis.....sometimes good on run plays, occasionally good on passing downs.... Totally sucked vs Gronk.... But making him a sacrificial lamb on solo coverage is the Biggest coaching blunder of the season.... Why aren't there fire the DC threads for this one.... Double Gronk is a no brainer....

Golden .... Ugggg ... Nuff said

    Wilcox wasting a roster spot

    Dangerfield on PS..... Why????

Burns still struggles with tight one on one and keeping his composer...

    Hayden fighting Father Time

    Gay losing to Father Time

    Sensabaugh..... Hahaha

Troubles in the secondary Transcend Mitchell!!!

I wouldn't count on Shazier ever playing again. I know there is still hope, but I'm not optimistic.

Safety has to be a high priority. I know Dupree is disappointing, but they can live with him for another year. They can't go with what they have at safety again. Maybe Davis can get better, but Mitchell is done.

I've been on record as saying we should get rid of Carnell Lake for 2 years now. Maybe too soon for Butler but he didnt do himself any favors with what I saw the last 2 minutes of that game. I've also loathed Mitchell for 4 years now. Hey to my surprise the Jets drafted 2 safeties last year in the 1st 2 rounds, we might think about making that the position of need for 2 of 3 rounds ourselves

Or they could actually sign a good safety in free agency this time. That might help.

I am not sold on Butler yet, he has shined in moments and failed in others. I'll give him a pass. Shaz, yeah unfortunately might be done.

    so safety 1st, LB 2nd, QB 3rd?

If ever there was a game that was made for a Mike Mitchell lighting someone up hit, it was this game. He could have dropped the hammer on Gronk a few times or got Lewis at the end of a run and just destroyed him.

    I say ILB 1st, Safety 2nd, TE 3rd.

My strategy is build a supporting cast for Landry Jones. I mean surround him like he is Trent Dilfer. Load the defense with some more pass rushers (DL/OLB). Load the offense with TE and WRs. Turn Landry Jones into a game manager until we are able to get the QB we need.

Any good free safeties who will be free agents after the season we could hope for?
