Well they deserve to be ranked there. It's not always about the best team, but the hottest team.

Take it for what it's worth.

The three teams ahead of them in all the power rankings last week all lost, so it makes sense to put them at No. 1. I'm not sure how many people really believe they belong there, especially with the way the defense is falling apart.

    The steelers have two weaknesses.

    1. The secondary. obvious
    2. They get down on themselves. Watching the dolphins last night go up on the pats and you could see they were amped. Even when the pats scored twice and started coming back the dolphins defense was lit. They came out slamming every time. The steelers have a couple bad plays go against them and they tend to lose that energy, get frustrated. Instead of running back to the line of scrimmage when excited they saunter back shrugging their shoulders. They need a moral leader.

The pats weakness is to blitz brady. The man loses his ever loving mind and never uses the last 1.5 seconds he actually has to make a play. He falls down.

I heard an analyst say yesterday that as important as a solid defense is, we might be the only team in the league that has the weapons to make the claim that having a solid-to-dominant offense is all that really matters.

We all joke, but we have the weapons to absolutely out-score ANYONE. And Ben has worked a lot of good defenses over the years.

Let's hope the offense continues to play well and the defense at least cuts back on the big plays. Getting Haden back would be huge. Mitchell is crazy banged up, too.

All in spite of Tomlin, Haley and Butler.

We could be better with good coaching.

They had no choice other than Eagles, but when a team loses their starting QB for the year, they are downgraded. We are #1 by default.

outscoring teams while getting haden back + Mitchell healing would do wonders, especially with linebackers getting more playing time. Our defense just has to be good enough pressuring the QB ONCE we get up ahead and force passing.

cant get behind or teams will run us over

I agree when we started this run we would win and then fall down a spot, then win. Now we are at 1 and there goes that chip.......I like it when we are underdogs......

How do you come up with this horrible take??? This team is consistently coming back from large deficits to win games. Thats the total opposite of what you described.

I’m guessing this isn’t what you meant, but we didn’t get to 11-2 by “default”.

This. I made a post about this team not having any quit in them. They'll be battle tested come playoff time. They fight all the way.

Steelers need to beat the Pats in the playoffs AND with the Super Bowl. That's all that matters.

We do have a "solid-to-dominant offense" but we can't continue to make our living by coming back from double digit deficits. That formula typically doesn't work in meaningful late December games and January football.

I get the concern about the secondary. That’s hard to deny even for those with rosiest shades.

But... this team gets down on themselves? Haven’t you watched the comebacks? Haven’t you seen the tenacity to claw back when the game is on the line? That’s perhaps the most inaccurate take I’ve seen in a while.

Well, of course we all know power rankings are a way to seem like there's some sort of legitimate football news on a Tuesday and mean about as much as a preseason game.

And to SHOW what they mean, you're in luck.... the Steelers are 3 point underdogs at home against the Pats in betting lines. The chip is ALIVE!!!! LONG LIVE THE CHIP!!!!!!!

On my way home today, AM talk radio had us ranked number 2 right behind the Patriots even though they lost last night. They said if we had Shazier in the line up then we'd be number 1 all the way. It made me feel a little bit better. I hate the Steelers being ranked #1 except after the 1st week of February when it actually only matters. Seems it always goes to their heads and the they become too comfortable and slip up. If we beat the Patriots after their defeat last night then they truly deserve to be #1 and can hopefully carry that ranking all the way.

Power Rankings are pretty meaningless though.

By default.. and an 11-2 record as well. It's not like we're some scrub team that was gifted the top spot. We've certainly earned it. Now let's go get the pats and cement ourselves as the team to beat heading into the playoffs
