Couple of internet sources say the Browns are loooking to trade McCoy. Do you guys think he be a good back up for us. I'd pull the trigger if it were a 6th or 7th round pick. I think McCoy has talent, but we all witnessed how many weapons he had. Thoughts?

Find it odd that they are thinking about trading him, their new first rounder will probably be retiring at the end of next season won't he?

Haha for real, but I believe it, anyone who took Weeden has to throw him in there right away.

Yeah I'd take McCoy for a 6th/7th I guess, but I would think a team desperate might take a shot with a 3rd or 4th on him.

It's all a moot point because we don't trade with division rivals.

While I do not think McCoy is a starting caliber QB, I REALLY like him as a long-term backup. He won't end up here, but some team will have him as a solid backup. My guess is that team will be Cleveland when they see the offers that they get.

Does this mean that the Browns will start Weeden from day one? This was such a strange pick by the Browns. I just don't get it. McCoy hasn't been much of a starter but he's got to be a better option that a rookie Weeden, right?

We don't need another backup QB. I would take Leftwich or Batch over McCoy any day.

Heckert or Holmgren, can't remember which one, was asked by the cleveland beat writer (tony grossi) if there was going to be a QB competition now and he basically said no. Translation: Weeden is starting day one, regardless if McCoy is still there.

If I were Colt I'd want out of there too. I've always kinda liked the guy...he was just put into a bad situation and setup to loose pretty much. If he had the weapons/etc around him...he COULD be a viable starter...but he should be a solid backup where ever he plays at.

Me too. I doubt they would trade him to us, but I've always liked McCoy. He's good on his feet, and he wasn't too phased when he first played us at least. He's better than Leftwish, for my money.
For a 6th? Yeah, I'd go for that. Will it happen? No.

I would not mine seeing McCoy backing up Ben.

I remember his first start. It was against us. Delhomme and Wallace were hurt. The rook came in against a really good defense and went 23-33 for 281 with a TD and 2 ints. I was very impressed!! The next week he lead the clowns to a upset against the Saints and than week after that he beat the Pats.

I think you put some good people around him like we have and he would turn out to be a very good back up here for a long time. Batch is in his last year and Lefty is not getting any younger and is hurt alot. And Smith the only reason he was on a UFL roster was a injury to Crouch and still only made one start for the Nighthawks in a losing effort.

    I like the idea!! :good:

Exactly. Browns ruined McCoy, I read a great article about how the OC destroyed Colt, even players on the team couldn't believe the way he treated him. Through it all, McCoy handled it like a professional but no doubt the damage was done. Kid needs to escape that crap team and get a fresh start.

The Browns have ruined a LOT of good quarterbacks since their return to the league. There should be a sign on their facility that says "QUARTERBACKS BEWARE!" Cleveland is like the Bermuda Triangle for NFL quarterbacks. Think about it - Tim Couch - probably a pretty good NFL quarterback coming out in the draft - ruined. Colt McCoy - pretty highly rated going into HIS draft - might not play another down. There are others. I just don't want to keep talking about it.

Listening to sports talk radio in Cleveland, you would think they became instant Super Bowl contenders. I just don't get it. While Weedon is good - and Richardson is an awesome running back - they have NOTHING to support them. They'll probably go WR in the 2nd round, so Richardson and Weedon will be playing behind an offensive line that is not very good. Let's see how long they hold up playing against the Ravens and Steelers defenses 4 times a year. Weedon may be ready to retire by the bye week.

I guess I can't blame Cleveland fans. This IS their Super Bowl. It's all downhill from here, and they'll be talking about their Draft Day home runs again next year when they're picking top 5 (maybe first overall) again.

By the way - the same Cleveland sports talk radio is saying that the Browns will take a 6th or 7th rounder for McCoy. They just want him out.

I would take him to backup Ben. He is a tough kid. I think we need some youth at QB.

It would be an interesting situation, needless to say. He certainly is a very good PERSON and would be reliable as a backup. I just don't see the Browns OR the Steelers trading with each other, though.

A trade would not be out of the question due to the divisional rivalry. New England and Miami did a deal for Welker a few years back. Philly traded McNabb to the Skins. I would take him over Leftwich any day, and while I like Batch, he is getting up there.

I'm guessing as a Starter now, he is probably too expensive for the Steelers to go out and get. At some point, yes we will need a backup. If Lefty can stay healthy, then he should be good for a long time. He won't be starting anywhere ever again. So I say, keep you picks and go out and both fill the needs the team has and build for the future as well.

Talk around Cleveland is that McCoy won't make it through the evening as a Clown. He'll soon realize that it's better to be a backup ANYWHERE than to be a starter in smelly Cleveland.
