doing this from my cell phone, sorry for being sloppy per ed bouchette

Some good news coming out from Steelers. Two players called Shazier's injury a spinal chord concussion, comparable to Tommy Maddox injury in 2002; Maddox missed 1 game. Encouraging news, another said.

There are a lot of 'prayers for Shazier' types of posts on the Raven fan forums. Classy and appreciated.

Being reported it’s the same injury Maddox had.

Well, while fearing for the worse, anything like this is great news!

Football aside, I really hope Shazier can stand on his feet as soon as possible.

Also classy and appreciated act by Andy Dalton praying with Steelers players after a hard and emotional loss at home with your plaoff chances on the line. Guy seems like a stand up guy and a class act.

I remember the Maddox injury and having the same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that I did tonight. And then Maddox came back after missing one game. I hope and pray Shazier is okay, but if he does come back this season they need to mandate that he go through heads up tackling training. He leads with his helmet a lot and he cannot continue to do that period!

God please, let it be minor. I am hoping he walks out the hospital tonight or tomorrow morning in good health. Please.

Agreed. Dalton is a good man. Appreciate these types of gestures from players on the other side...

NFL.com says it is a spinal contusion, not a spinal concussion?

Apparently the two are way different?

Correct. It seems a contusion is more serious. It's a bruise. It's still not as bad as a spinal fracture or tear but it is potentially more serious than Tommy Maddox's injury. They won't know if there's permanent damage until the swelling goes down. Hopefully they're pumping him full of steroids and keep his body cool to minimize the damage and speed the recovery. The first 72 hours are the most critical.

I echo all the sentiments expressed on this thread. A question for the board. Is Ryan the draft pick who has the narrow spinal opening that was a concern when first drafted or am I mixing up players names?

I was watching the game on condensed and they didn't show much of the injury, so a bit of a shock to check into the board and get the full story.

Glad to hear the sounds are positive from basecamp. As others have said, there are things that go beyond football.

Jarvis Jones has spinal stenosis. That's probably who you're thinking about.
