Before the excuse was he didn't have any talent to work with, now he has high draft picks in Burns and Davis. So where's the progress with these two? Burns actually looks like he has regressed . The safeties never get there in time to help out the CBs, when they do they miss the tackle.

To be fair the on the long run the Safeties were totally over-running the play.

On the first blown coverage by Burns, Mitchell was responsible for the crossing route and Burns was supposed to carry that guy. Once he screwed up, he also knocked Mitchell out of getting over to make a play on the catch...

Our secondary has had some success with interceptions this year but sometimes with a young group they tend to look into the backfield and get beat on double moves trying to recreate. During the next 3 games and especially with NE they need to be disciplined and tackle much better

We have the 3rd best pass defense in the league, I can assure you, Lakes seat won't even get a smidge warm. Nor should it.

Davis is playing better this year and Burns has taken a step back. Neither is a complete player yet so passing judgment is a bit premature.

I guess you also have to give him some credit for Mike Hilton's play too.

The real test will be to see if he can take a raw guy like Brian Allen and help him progress

More like getting colder by the day in my eyes.

    It is as me, you and Elvis (indirectly) stated;

Artie needs to react and act more and think less. Only he has that answer no one else.

Fingers crossed he has a sophomore explosion of sorts in 2018.

Sean Davis is OK. He's no Troy Polamalu, but he's serviceable and has the potential to be pro-bowl level. Mike Mitchell is the one who needs to be replaced, IMO.

As far as corner goes... Hilton, Haden and Sensabaugh may be the way forward, for now, if Burns keeps regressing.

It's time for William Gay to get on with his life's work , he can't play anymore.

I'm attributing a lot to the loss of Joe Haden. Everything was doing just wonderful by today's NFL standards for a great secondary.

Since he's gone out, big plays (splash) all over the place.

Steelers have got to get better at tackling, a lot of these are 30 yards pass plays but failure to bring guys down as led to 50- 60 yard Touchdown passes.

Actually those place we're happening when Hayden was still playing. I read somewhere yesterday that we've given up nine of those long touchdown plays and Hayden is responsible for four of them.

Maybe just break downs. A lot of these plays are terrible, like no one around the ball catcher by 10 yards.

It's not just Artie Burnt. While our front 7 has been awesome our secondary has seemed to regress in the last few games. The blown covers and poor tackling made Hundley look like a HOF QB and when we give up chunks they're HUGE chunks.

None of us can say exactly why they've regressed but we can say it's a problem that needs fixed and that Lake is the guy that is supposed to fix it.

Artie has been bad this year! He cant tackle at all and gets burnt on long plays. I think he has definitely taken a step back as well. Confidence issue maybe?

Its absurd, its not even on Steelers radar, bet you anything they arent remotely considering it.

#3 pass defense, lets fire our secondary coach! Freaking fans :lolol:

Just for the record: I'm not saying he should be fired.

You got to look at what's happening...those plays are zone busting plays.

You have to stay disciplined and carry your guy (the correct guy) or the whole defense gets burned. pun intended.

Last year the defense improved when I heard the mantra of "Do your Job!" coming from the locker room. That's all they have to do for now. No need to try to make a game busting play at this point in the season.

You mean like Artie and Davis....both of whom had a lot more playing time their rookie years

While I agree he's not going anywhere.....at the same time I wouldn't be hanging your hat on that #3 ranking. We haven't exactly faced the gauntlet of NFL QBs.....and it seems to me the 1 or 2 we have, have lit us up...and even a couple who shouldn't have had nearly as much success as they should .....did.
Just like always, if we can't generate pressure we're gonna get torched. Number 3 ranking will be a distant memory...

We were what last year? 17th-20th? Somewhere in that range. Thats a big jump, obviously means they are playing better.

Elite QB's will more often then not have good games against any secondary, just how the league us geared. Rules favor the offense.

I was as pissed as anyone that Hundley did that to our secondary and think I even took it out on them after the game, they definitely have to stop those breakdowns in coverage but the idea that Lake should be on the hot seat? No, dont agree with that at all.
