He apologized for "inadvertently" taking a banned substance. When it comes to your career and the insane amount of money he'll lose over this how in the hell can you "inadvertently" take something? Fess up, admit you messed up and then get up to a higher plane.

Oh well. The standard is the standard and Hubbard has filled in very nicely.

Why do these guys even try that line? No way in hell it was accidental. He cheated. He got caught. Now the team will pay the price.

I do not know what games y'all have been watching this year, but Hubbard has not played well at all in Gilbert's place. The line was already struggling to run block. This is a huge blow. So much for seeing what the Steelers could do at full strength against the Patriots. Now they will be without their best cornerback and one of the top right tackles in the AFC.

Gilbert was probably tested by accident. The sent Harrison's weekly test request to Gilbert by mistake probably.

It doesn't matter to you but it does to me. Self indulgence is what Bell and Bryant did. Having all the talent and opportunity to succeed in life and squandering those chances chasing a high.

What Gilbert did was feel like he was letting the team down and wanted to rush back from what he terms a small man's injury. He thought he could take something quick and get back and not get tabbed for a drug test. I can understand that. He is an idiot for thinking he could get away with it but I don't feel he did it out of selfish reasons like the other two.

With all the supplements out there to take that supposedly speed healing and recovery time, it's not unheard of.

That said, there are guys in the organization that have the lists of things that you can or can't take.

Sometimes companies change formulas or something comes out that's not evaluated yet though.

Seems he was trying to do whatever it took to get back on the field and contribute though.

It was PED's, not drugs for partying. Not the same thing.

No. Nothing helps you heal better than steroids. The stuff works. Ask former pro players. Being on the stuff heals you quicker.

Except that they now have HGH. Harder to get hold of and remain anonymous, but much more effective and easier to hide from testing.

Or they could just follow the rules instead of trying to sidestep and cheat.

In this day and age I'll bet half the players do not believe or realize what they put on their aches and pains will actually test positive for HGH. I doubt many of them do the slightest research. As far as I know it's his first offense so I not going to label him as trying to cheat but who knows other than his own self. He got caught and it's against the rules so he'll have to live with it and the team will need to adjust accordingly.

I'm not a Hubbard fan and I mentioned that I think it's a big drop off in talent, but I feel like he's done pretty well with run blocking. It's the pass protection where he is very lacking.

Shew, what a relief! I thought he did it on purpose. I feel so much better knowing it was inadvertent.

He is a small drop-off from Gilbert as a run blocker, but a significantly worse pass blocker. Given Villanueva's struggles on the other side, the offense is in some trouble. They better stick to those short passes because the time to throw isn't going to be there the next four weeks.

I can understand him trying to get away with taking something banned to get over a hamstring injury. However, It is neither condoned or even a near acceptable excuse, and I find it to be foolish/selfish. Now, Gilbert will drop a million in salary and potentially hurt his teams' playoff seeding. Like someone else pointed out, man up and say what it is you did take. Or, is that a violation of some kind of silly unwritten rule amongst peers? With all that money that is on the line, I can't believe these guys continue to be so short sighted about it or, is that the root cause?

I hope people realize most players take PED’s. Yes even Harrison. If you actually work out you know you can’t get arms and traps as big as some of these guys naturally at that body fat. You just have to be smart when you cycle.

Game planning /play calling based on personnel doesn't coincide with 'next man up', 'the standard is the standard', ect.

    This.

Pro sports players will be taking a range of supplements as part of their routine. It would be entirely possible to “inadvertently” cross the line, but ultimately the players responsibility to understand that.

    Aaaargh.
